I am looking for a Science Fiction book with a main character named Ran. This book could have been written in the 60's or 70's or possibly before that. I read it in the 70's. Some spoilers ahead! It takes place in the far future and mankind has been virtually wiped out by aliens. Only a few men are thought to have survived with all women killed off. The men fight for pay for several alien species who are at war with the aliens who killed off mankind. There is a persistent rumor that there is a planet where some women survive but no one has been able to find it. Some of the men have settled down with beautiful alien females but most choose to fight. The aliens capture Ran and are about to remove his arms and legs and put him on display as a warning to the other men and aliens who fight them. The book ends here with Ran's fate unknown. This was the start of a series but I never got to read anymore of the books and have forgotten the title and the author's name. Any help would be appreciated.

Michael --
You've given some good details, and someone is likely to recognize your book.
You can bump your book every month or so to keep this thread at the top of the folder. This lets new eyes see it and older eyes reflect on it again.
Good luck!

Thanks. How do you bump it up?
Just post a comment like you did to "bump" your request to the top of the Unsolved queue -- every 30+ days, or sooner if you remember more information.

Still looking but I have had no luck. :( If you want to delete this post it will be alright with me as it has been here a long time.
Michael, if you're still interested in finding this book, we're happy to keep your thread open. Some requests take a few years to solve. Let us know. (We prefer not to delete a thread because if often contains useful information that can help others in the group.)
I added some plot details to the header/title at the top of the page, so your book might be recognized from that description alone. Many members only read the headers.
You can update it by clicking the small "edit" link after the header. This only works on the full Desktop website - not the Mobile website or app. (On the Mobile website, there's a "Desktop version" link at the bottom of the page.)

Yes, I am still interested in finding it. I am glad for you to keep it open. Maybe someone will have some info on it eventually. :)
Great. We encourage people to bump their thread (post a comment in it) every 30+ days, because this group is so large. If you remember new details, you can add them at any time.
