SOLVED. Cold case or reopened case about young girl killed [s]

I'm looking for the title of the below book:

I read this book in 2006 or 2007 although I'm not sure when it was published. A young school aged girl is murdered but the case was either never solved or pinned on the wrong person. If I remember correctly the mechanic or someone who later became a mechanic was either blamed or convicted. However, years later the case is reopened.

****SPOILER....
I believe one of the suspects was a teacher who became principal. If memory serves me correctly, he was the one who actually killed the girl. I think they were having and affair but I don't remember.

Mark--we really need the name of the book. In case there are others who are also looking for it. It's part of the reason for this list, having a database of book titles that made enough of an impact on someone (or more than one someone) that they are interested in finding it again.
