B. Morris Allen (bmorrisallen) | 65 comments I seem to be misunderstanding how to add the series when creating a book. I'm following the tool tip instruction and adding (Series, #) to the title, but a) it doesn't seem to generate an actual series, and b) it's unwieldy.

For example, I've added several issues of Metaphorosis Magazine. These should all be part of the series "Metaphorosis Magazine", but that hasn't worked. The series starts in 2016, so the January 2016 issue is #1 (or #01).

I've had the same issue with 'Best of Metaphorosis'.

Below are titles in the Metaphorosis Magazine series (June, August, and December are missing but should still have a number/gap in the series - that is, July should be #7, even though there is currently no June issue):

In the Best of Metaphorosis series:

I'd appreciate any advice on how to do this properly in future.

Betsy | 605 comments I'm not sure I consider magazine issues to be a valid series. To be a series the different works are supposed to take place in the same place (world, city, universe, whatever), and more than likely include many of the same characters.

Hugo (hugo_nebula) | 740 comments Looks to be a fiction anthology series, much like Granta, which we have almost 150 listings for. Classed under Periodicals, according to the Manual.

lethe | 16368 comments Yes, I never understood why Granta is considered a series. Or maybe staff don't, but are not aware a series was made for it.

(Being allowed in the database does not mean being allowed as a series.)

B. Morris Allen (bmorrisallen) | 65 comments There seem to be a number of other, similar periodicals that have series associated. I'd hope for this to be treated the same.
Examples include: Granta, Shimmer, Lightspeed, Fantasy and Science Fiction, Paris Review - all similar to Metaphorosis.

Sandra | 31517 comments B. authors can't edit series, only librarians & staff can. That's why you weren't actually creating a series.

B. Morris Allen (bmorrisallen) | 65 comments Sandra, thanks very much; that's helpful.

B. Morris Allen (bmorrisallen) | 65 comments Any resolution of this issue? As noted, this series is in exactly the same position as the below - all of which are recognized as series.

Granta, Shimmer, Lightspeed, Fantasy and Science Fiction, Paris Review.

Metaphorosis (metaphorosisreviews) | 62 comments Could we get a resolution of this question? As it is, magazines are being treated differently.

message 10: by Emy (new)

Emy (emypt) | 5037 comments Literary Magazines are currently treated as series, but this may change. Of course, there is nothing stopping us from creating a Listopia as well, but I would advise that it is locked to avoid inappropriate additions (e.g. stories that were in the LitMag but are now published separately).

message 11: by Metaphorosis (new)

Metaphorosis (metaphorosisreviews) | 62 comments Emy,
Thanks. The Metaphorosis listings still don't seem to have a clickable series link
- contrast
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
and
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

I'd like to get that changed.
