Laura (Lclwags) (lclwags) | 698 comments I just saw an email from Half Price books about Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore. They're reading it for their book club. It sounds really interesting!

Don't worry, there are plenty of us who remember those cartoons :)

Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments I loved those cartoons. Thak you so much for bringing back a happy memory,

Lara | 1426 comments Now that the Toppler is over, I've started the book. It reads pretty quickly and is different from what I was expecting.

I like the heroine, but wonder about her determination to avoid her past. It seems that she has not moved on much at all and she's let is shape her entire life. Her boyfriend is sweet and funny. Though I must say that I'm not looking forward t learning the details of her past.

The mystery of Joey is bugging me. I'm wondering what he was doing with the books. At first I thought it was a message, but I can't figure out the purpose. What happened and where is his friend?

And I would love to spend time in that bookstore. I wondered if it was based on Tattered Cover, as they have a store in lower downtown Denver right by Union Station. However, that is a new branch and this book takes place in the 1990s (which also surprised me).

Naomi (nchigh) | 706 comments I read the author used to live in Denver and worked at the Tattered Cover. I am right in the beginning too. Sounds like about the same location as you.

Naomi (nchigh) | 706 comments Getting ready to start chaper 9. Chapter 8 is about the horrible thing that happened in her past.

Lara | 1426 comments Yes, I read it earlier this evening. It was pretty awful. And the mystery of the books is really interesting. However, I'm almost afraid to learn what message he left behind.

And I'm wondering about Raj and what will happen with him.

Naomi (nchigh) | 706 comments Well, I left my book at work by accident. I am up to the point where Lydia has went to the mountains to talk to the investigator and he has put some doubt in her mind about her father.

Lara | 1426 comments You're further along than me. I'll get some more read this evening. It's a pretty quick read so far, but I'm only about 40% in.

Lara | 1426 comments Okay, I finished last night and am not sure how I feel about it. There were some nasty revelations at the end, though I saw some of them coming. There was just such a huge mess! And all because of one small act that wasn't even permanent.

It definitely did not have a happy ending, but I didn't feel it was sad or depressing, despite everything. I'm avoiding spoilers until you have had a chance to finish, as its hard to say much about the last third of the book without giving something away.

Naomi (nchigh) | 706 comments Ok. I just finished it. So it was an ok book. She seemed to have blocked out a lot of what happened and didn't think of why she was still alive. Once Moberg told her about her blood trail and made her think of the noise she made and then she said the Hammerman seemed surprised that Carol was there in the house that made me think of Rohan as the killer. But I didn't think it was because the plumber was plumbing his wife, so to speak.

Lara | 1426 comments I agree that it was okay. I did start to suspect the plumber, but there wasn't evidence--until there was.
