Book subscription boxes.

Hi Jasmine I haven’t ever heard of subscription boxes! They sound interesting. Do you know who offers them? If so perhaps they can be asked about HF boxes?
I’ll be interested to hear the result:)
There are several independent companies. They are becoming more popular. Most of the ones I know of are YA fiction. Owlcrate, fairy loot, unicorn box.
I used to subscribe to the Book Riot box when they offered it. It was nice because they did it based on themes. They would send bookish goodies along with a book or two and the books would be different genres not just YA.They've changed it now to the Quarterly Box, which focuses on fiction. I haven't seen a box specifically for HF though.
I'll have to look that one up. I found a few for fiction, but that seems like such a broad genre I'm scared of what I would get.
I don't know of a subscription for historical fiction, but am a fan of subscriptions, generally. I subscribe to SoHo Crime, Noir Reads, and Restless Books. In the past, I've subscribed to Call Number (African-American fiction and nonfiction, and Open Letter (contemporary lit, often translated). Here's a link to CrateJoy's list, I'm sure some of which are custom mixed based on your genre preferences.

There’s a Historical Fiction box from PageHabit if you’re interested. I subscribe to it currently and have been satisfied so far with the books I’ve gotten (all were ones on my TBR). Here’s the website for those who want to check it out: https://www.pagehabit.com
Jasmine wrote: "Thanks. Is it just books or are there goodies as well?"Yes, it includes bookish goods as well. The unique thing with the PageHabit one is that the book includes annotated notes from the author in the form of post-it notes interspersed throughout the hardcover version of the book. There is also a handwritten letter from the author. Recent boxes also include a short story booklet as well. There is also the option of adding additional books to the box, though I never tried that option so not sure how that piece works.
So, as another person who has never heard of book subscription boxes, how do they work?I am part of a writers' coop that publishes a fair amount of (vetted) historical fiction, as well as (vetted) fiction in other genres. But I doubt we publish enough to offer more than a one-time deal.
Is this basically a "Book of the Month" club in modern clothing?

Typically you subscribe for six months or a year for $X. Each month during your term, you get a curated selection. Some subscriptions include items that relate to the book, in addition to the book. CallNumber and Open Letter include a newsletter or one-pager about the book or author or its significance. Some subscriptions include apparel even, and the book may represent only 25% or so of the price.
Book of the Month is still around, and I understand that they offer four to six selections each month and you choose which one you want. As far as I'm aware though, everyone else surprises you with the selection.
A few are monthly, and auto-renew.
Does that help?
