I recently read the Locke & Key series (VOL 1-6) and thoroughly enjoyed them. I was at the library and noticed this volume. I knew that there were a few stand-alone stories that were published after the initial story arch. This volume covers a story involving previous members of the Locke family who lived in the early 1900's. What I didn't realize was that the story was just the equivalent of a 1 issue comic. (Normally graphic novels are 5-6 issues bundled together in a full story arc). There was a fully story, but it was the equivalent of a short story (which I don't care for much).
Overall, this has the same style as the Locke & Key series, just focused on earlier members of the family. There is a slight world-building incongruity. The hardcover volume did include interviews with the writer and illustrator and also rough drafts of both of their work that show how the comic making process works --- this was of little interest to me.
Jolene, I think I'm on the 5th book in the main Locke and Key series. Are there only 6 to the main series? Thanks! (If so, it's nice to know it's coming to an end! Not that I don't enjoy it, but I do hate when series drag on and on and on...)
Yes, the series ends with volume 6. I think there are 3 stand-alone stories. In the interview in this book, Hill said he had a second arc outlined of another 5 or 6 graphic novels, but no definitive plans. They were unrelated to the first, except featuring the house and keys.
