Tim Franklin | 11070 comments Prunella Scales, best known for portraying Sybil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers, aged 93. She was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2013, although her husband, Timothy West, had noticed signs of memory loss as far back as a decade earlier when she missed her lines during the 2003 production of 'A Woman Of No Importance'.

The couple took part in Channel 4's 'Great Canal Journeys' in which Scales' illness was discussed. Declining health led to their exit in 2019. Tim West sadly died in 2024.

Fantastic actress - Sybil Fawlty part never to be forgotten. A good innings for a national treasure.

Aargh - hadn't heard this. A genius. Saw him with Richard Thompson and latterly marvelled at his longevity on Transatlantic sessions. Contributed greatly to albums of 2 of my heroes, Nick Drake and John Martyn.

Tim Franklin | 11070 comments Peter Watkins, on 30th October, the day after he turned 90 years old. A filmmaker, he will probably be best remembered for his 1966 nuclear war film made for the BBC, 'The War Game', which was blocked by the corporation (under pressure from the Labour government), and wouldn't be screened on TV until 1985 to mark the 25th anniversary of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The film did receive a handful of cinema screenings at the time. Watkins would later direct films such as 'Privilege' (1967), 'Punishment Park' (1971) and 'Edvard Munch' (1974)

Val H. | 22522 comments So sad to read of the death of Todd Snider aged 59. There's not that many artists who can make you laugh. Todd always made me laugh! Thanks Todd.

Tim Franklin | 11070 comments Gary 'Mani' Mounfield, bassist with Stone Roses and later Primal Scream, at the age of 63. Quite apart from going at such a young age, this is tragic from his family point of view, Mani's wife Imelda died two years ago from bowel cancer. The couple's twin sons, now aged 12, are left as orphans. Thoughts go out to those boys. RIP.

Sera69 | 1978 comments Yeah, that's a really sad one. Seemed like a great guy, the nice one out of the Stone Roses (maybe even the talented one), and he championed Puressence way back when.

Huck Flynn | 383 comments The greatest Scottish folk singer Arche Fisher passed away on November 1st. A wonderful warm, rich voice and wise and poetic lyrics. A legend and still performing up until recently. His concerts were great fun with lots of hilarious true stories. A sad loss

That's sad. I bought his album 'Orfeo' after hearing the title song on the radio. Will have to dig it out again. RIP
