The Gone But Not Forgotten RIP Thread
Brian Wilson, the musical genius behind the Beach Boys, dies at 82https://www.latimes.com/obituaries/st...
One of the best gigs I ever went to, Brian Wilson and The Wondermints in Melbourne 2004. It was a warm December Friday night and a crowd in a great mood (after work drinks). It was only 18 months after his appearance at the Queen’s Jubilee and he was still very fragile but the crowd showered him with love. I’ve seen him with the Beach Boys but give me that show with The Wondermints any time. A musical giant sadly no more.

Sad news, Sj.
Lalo Schifrin, Argentine born film composer, aged 93. His credits include the theme for Mission: Impossible (in the original and far superior TV version), Cool Hand Luke, Bullitt, Dirty Harry, Enter The Dragon, The Eagle Has Landed and The Amityville Horror
Gerald Harper, actor and radio presenter amongst other things, aged 96. Probably his best remembered role would be the title character in the BBC series 'Adam Adamant Lives!' (1966-67). Starting in the early 70s for about a decade Harper presented his 'Sunday Affair' show on Capital Radio, during which he would send champagne and chocolates to especially deserving listeners. He would later return to the theatre to act and direct.
Dave Cousins, of the Strawbs has died aged 85.Will probably always be remembered for Part of the Union, but they had some pretty fine albums in their catalogue all the way into the 2010's

Part of Union was really Hudson-Ford piece but Cousins was a brilliant guitarist, singer and songwriter. really, he was the Strawbs. Their album Grave New World is a MASTERPIECE, Bursting at the Seams another excellent album. Sort of Rock-Folk-Prog. One of Rick Wakeman's first bands ! RIP
I know 87 is a good innings but I'm still sad. She was very good in her field but never seemed to find real happiness. I love her album "Who's Happy Now".
David Kaff, 79, formerly of progressive band Rare Bird (as David Kaffinetti). Despite his genuine musical pedigree, Kaff will probably be best remembered for playing Viv Savage, keyboard player with Spinal Tap in the legendary movie.Rare Bird - Sympathy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-DIu...

The end of an era. It's almost as if Ozzy was holding on to do that farewell show before letting go, similar to how David Bowie did until the day after Black Star was released in 2016. RIP and thank you.
Even tho i knew it was coming, i still hoped a few more years for him. I don't like this reality, can we go back to 1986 please.
George Kooymans, guitarist with Golden Earring, passed at 77 after years suffering with the neuro-muscular disease ALS. Radar Love is usually on those Rock compilations somewhere close to Paranoid, but 25 studio albums means there is a lot more to them than one hit wonder, and George could play! Unfortunately, he didn't get to make it, a la Ozzy, to the final night: "Golden Earring: One Last Night", that was scheduled for 30th January, 2026.
RIP Ozzy, true legend, second from the three indestructibles in my book gone (first was Lemmy, Keef left).Yesterday evening were watching his last performance I downloaded just couple weeks ago, great timing! Good crowd, unlike ones from eurovison or fookin glastonburry.
oh well...
Dame Cleo Laine (Clementina Campbell) died on July 24th in Wavendon, Buckinghamshire, at the age of 97 ... RIP ... xI don't dislike all that much in music although I have never been fond of Jazz. However, Cleo Laine's Jazz records were a huge favourite of my parents when I was a child and so I grew up listening to her ... admiring her remarkable personality, great beauty, and incredible vocal gift.

Tom Lehrer, at 97. Mathematician and genius satirist and all round great American. F. You 2025. F. you very much
I knew I shouldn't have looked him up on Wiki recently! Now I feel responsible for his death along with Neil Simon and Michel Legrand. "An Evening With Tom Lehrer" was a big part of my childhood. Such fun and intelligence and kindness.
And it's farewell to Flaco Jiménez, the very epitome of Tex-Mex music, aged 86. He played with everyone - the Stones, Stephen Stills, Doug Sahm, Emmylou Harris, Ry Cooder, Bob Dylan and many more. Sadly missed.https://www.rollingstone.com/music/mu...

Ronnie Rondell, Jr. aged 88You might not know his name, but his best known work is in millions of people's homes. Ronnie was the stuntman who was set on fire for Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here' album sleeve.

Brent Hinds, lead guitarist for Mastodon, died at 51 in a motorcycle accident. Mastodon were pretty much a revelation in their formative years combining heavy and progressive elements and releasing, arguably, some of the greatest albums of the C21st.
RIP Mark Volman, Turtles co-founder and ‘Happy Together’ singerhttps://www.nme.com/news/music/mark-v...

He was the “pin-up” boy of my generation - which probably undermined our assessment of him as an actor. I loved his comedy chops in Barefoot In The Park (“If it’s the Red Cross, let them in”). His role as the Sundance Kid defined the late 1960s. I will always love The Way We Were and Three Days of The Condor. I thought he was miscast in Out Of Africa, much as I love that film. I am a great fan of Dark Winds and it was lovely to see him (in what I assume was his last on-screen appearance) in Season 3 playing chess with George R.R. Martin. Special mention for his direction of A River Runs Through It. Vale Mr Redford and thanks for the memories.
A nice tribute, Val. My personal favourite of all his films is Jeremiah Johnson. I've been surprised that none of the tributes and valedictories I have read mention it. Apart from being a beautiful and exciting watch I think it encapsulates many of the values he held dear."And some folks say he's up there still".
I remember seeing Jeremiah Johnson when it first came out but it didn’t make any lasting impression on me. It now seems best known for a meme where the younger generation assumed it to be Zach Galifianakis! Another early film that rarely gets mentioned is The Chase. I also have a soft spot for The Electric Horseman.
Tomas Lindberg, vocalist with At The Gates, passed at 52. Likely not so well know here but a leading light of the extreme metal scene. 1995's Slaughter of the Soul is easily a classic and one of the most influential metal albums of recent years.
News today that we lost legendary cricket umpire Dickie Bird, aged 92, and beautiful Italian actress Claudia Cardinale, aged 87.
RIP Chris Dreja, 79, English Hall of Fame bassist (The Yardbirds)https://www.noise11.com/news/chris-dr...
Well done Patricia Routledge on achieving 96 years, many spent entertaining us in everything from To Sir, With Love to Talking Heads. I saw her here in 2014 in a one-woman show about Dame Myra Hess. She was a lovely singer too - just try buying a copy of her CD Presenting Patricia Routledge - prices are too rich for me! I hadn't twigged she was in one of my favourite films, If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium. I'll have to watch it again.https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/03/ob...
One that somehow slipped through the net, despite his passing back in August.Bobby Whitlock, aged 77. Will be best remembered for being part of Derek & the Dominoes. Before that he had been one of Delaney & Bonnie's 'friends' on the tour which resulted in the duo's famous live album with Eric Clapton in 1969. When George Harrison also rolled up, the band assembled for the tour all contributed to his classic 'All Things Must Pass'.
Bobby went on to make a few solo albums during the seventies before walking away from the music business at the end of the decade.
Moody Blues singer John Lodge has died 'suddenly and unexpectedly' aged 82Rip😢

Viv Prince, drummer with the Pretty Things, aged 84.https://outonthefloor.co.uk/viv-prince/
One of the first and greatest wild men of rock, Viv's name was frequently prefaced with 'lunatic'. He came up with the nickname Moon the loon for the Who's drummer, who had taken inspiration from Viv's own debauchery. Viv lasted for two albums with the Pretty Things, who were eventually forced to fire him due to increasing unreliability. Sometime in the 70s Viv retired from music and moved to Portugal.
Sad to hear of the passing of of Tigertailz drummer Ace Finchum at 62, over the weekend. Part of the classic line up in the late 80s early 90s, Tigertailz always overstretched themselves but they were the only British glam band to truly try and match the heights of their LA contemporaries. It all looks a bit strange now. But they still remain one of my all-time favourite concert experiences.Love Bomb Baby - Tigertailz

Sad to hear. The band had only released their first album in twenty years just over a month ago, I think.
