Yes, ‘A fairytale of New York’ is pretty much the only Christmas song I find bearable …Just had a message to say my comment was too short to post. First for me, that.

Oddly enough it's one of the few Christmas songs that I can't stand, yet to find anyone who agrees with me though.

I'm not that overly keen on it myself, but i wouldn't say that i loathe that song. I prefer Jona Lewie's Stop The Cavalary myself. :)
I've always liked it, probably because I always liked both The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl. It took me ages to wean my youngest daughter off Ronan Keating's version but now she says it's her second favourite Christmas song after Ron Sexsmith's Maybe This Christmas - I think I've done my work well!

Don't care much of Pogues, but there is something special about MacGowan's laugh,

Farewell Andre Braugher, aged 61, after a short illness. He was a great favourite of mine in shows like Homicide: Life On The Street, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Good Fight.
Farewell David Soul, aged 80. While I wasn't a fan of either his singing or his acting, he was definitely an 80s icon.

Sorry Val I didn't mean for my last post to come across as condescending. I hope it wasn't taken that way.
Not at all Nick. I never liked the bloke so I wasn't disenchanted by the news. I did rather like Franz Beckenbauer so sad to see he's gone. I'm starting to feel my age as all my near contemporaries fall off the perch. Got to be expected!
The legend of British hard rock, leader, guitarist and sole songwriter of Magnum over all their 23 albums, Mr Tony Clarkin, has passed at 77. I am very sad. He leaves us with a new Magnum album to enjoy, expected next week. Legend is no understatement.
Annie Nightingale. My dad always listened to her radio show.
Shocked she was 83, I thought her in her sixties.
I used to listen to Annie Nightingale too....she lived to a much older age than i thought she was!A little belated this one, but a mention to Welsh rugby legend John Peter Rhys Williams, affectionately known as JPR, who passed away on the 8th January aged 74.
https://apnews.com/article/jpr-willia...
A thoroughly nice man, distinctive through his playing style, long hair and sideburns, and ferociously competitive & fearless. Williams captained Wales and Bridgend, winning 55 caps, three Grand Slams and six Triple Crowns for his country. And in 1977, JPR was appointed an MBE for services to Rugby. In 1973, JPR qualified as a orthopedic surgeon. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1980. In 1986 he was appointed a consultant in trauma and orthopaedic surgery at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend.
RIP JPR

Among his other films were 'The Cincinnati Kid' (1965), 'The Thomas Crown Affair' (1968), 'Rollerball' (1975) and 'A Soldier's Story' (1984)https://www.theguardian.com/film/2024...

Steve Wright, BBC Radio 2 presenter, aged just 69. I can hardly believe this as it was only on Sunday that he did 'Pick Of The Pops'; at lunchtime and a pre-recorded Valentine's Day special of his Love Songs show. I've no idea if POTP was live or recorded.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainm...
The legendary and inimitable Mr Mojo Nixon, hillbilly punk and eternal outlaw, passed February 7th at an obscenely youthful 66.I thoroughly recommend his collaboration with Jello Biafra

Sprung to fame as Illya Kuryakin in 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E' before going on to roles in 'Colditz' and 'Sapphire And Steel' culminating with spending twenty years (!) playing Donald 'Ducky' Mallard in NCIS.
McCallum also appeared in numerous films, ranging from 'The Great Escape' at one end of the scale, to the hilariously bad 'Night Of The Lepus' at the other.
RIP
