Many, many years ago, Dame Diana was appearing at Liverpool's Royal Court Theatre and one morning I saw her sitting on a bench in St John's Gardens, reading a book. At the other end of the bench was one of the regular down'n outs reading the racing in the L'Pool Daily Post. It made a lovely cameo. That's when a mobile comes in handy!

Saw him a few years ago at, of all places, Cleethorpes Pier. A verr, verr dhrunken night and great gig (well, they usually are if you're pissed) with my ex-bro-in-law. He was quite an impassive, still and stocky figure onstage despite his impassioned vocals. Only just released a new album;

Jackie Stallone, died 21st Sept aged 98.According to Wikipedia, she was an astrologer, dancer, circus performer, and a promoter of women's wrestling..and more famously...mum to Sly Stallone, singer Frank Stallone, and actress Toni D'Alto.
It also says that her family lived with Charles Atlas, who trained the family in gymnastics, weight lifting, and jogging. So that explains Sly then.
Great age..died peacefully in sleep at home with her family.

Sir Harold Evans ... another 'Manchester lad done good' ... was the legendary Journalist who, amongst so many other things, exposed the Thalidomide Scandal, and ran campaigns on Cervical Cancer which then led onto the National implementation of Screening Programmes.He died yesterday in New York at the age of 92.
Reuters, the multinational Media Company, has paid tribute to him by writing: “We mourn the loss of Sir Harold Evans, who set the world’s gold standard for journalism.”
“His 70-year career as an investigative journalist, magazine founder, book publisher and author made him one of the most influential media figures of his generation.”
A couple of Aussie legends now departed. Cricketer Dean Jones had a heart attack while commentating in India - only 59. With 52 tests and 164 one-day games to his name and a batting average of 46.55, he was the hero of many Aussies. He also had the advantage of being a Victorian in a national team that so often draws its members from NSW.And Max Merritt (born in New Zealand but a long-time resident of Australia). He was 79 but had been suffering from Goodpasture Syndrome for many years. The only time the ARIA Awards (Australian Recording Industry) were held in Melbourne - 2008 - I scored tickets and got to see Max inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame, alongside The Triffids, Dragon, Russell Morris - and Rolf Harris!

Eddie Van Halen, 65, of throat cancer. Only saw them once in 78 or 79 as support for a Black Sabbath who were tired and going through the motions shortly before Ozzy was sacked. Their 30-40 minutes was an awe-inspiring, energetic and eye-popping romp through most of their ground-breaking debut album. Farewell Spencer Davis, aged 81. I find it hard to think of my contemporaries as "old". He might have had 10 years on me but he was still the founder of a band that meant a lot to me in my formative years of music appreciation. Some of those songs are timeless.

Farewell Jerry Jeff Walker, aged 78, of throat cancer. He'll always be known for writing "Mr Bojangles", but there were so many other terrific songs - "Gettin' By", "Sangria Wine", etc - plus he popularised many songs by Guy Clark, Gary P. Nunn and Ray Wylie Hubbard. "Viva Terlingua" was always my favourite album. I'm glad I got to see him back in the 70s.

Shaver stopped into a Lorena, Texas, bar for a beer with his former wife Wanda, and ended up in an altercation with a patron. Shaver testified the man was rude to his wife and told Shaver to “shut the fuck up.” After the two went outside, witnesses testified Shaver asked the victim, “Where do you want it?” and then pointed a .22 pistol at his cheek and pulled the trigger.
