EDIT : I've just been asked what this Post of mine is about and so I thought that I'd better post the explanation up on here as well. I posted it just after the Silence and the lighting up of the Candles across the UK to honour and pay tribute and respect to all those who have so sadly lost their lives during this terrible Covid-19 Pandemic ... x RIP x

Tim Franklin | 10974 comments Earl Cameron, aged 102. Born in Bermuda, he became one of the first black actors to break the 'colour bar' in the British film industry with his starring role in the 1951 movie 'Pool Of London'. His next major role was in 'Simba' (1955) about the mau-mau rising in Kenya. Other roles followed, the best known being in the James Bond film 'Thunderball'. His final big screen role was a small part in 'Inception' (2010).

Alongside the big screen, Cameron appeared on TV. Some early 60's roles for the BBC explored issues around racism. He also appeared in Danger Man, The Prisoner, and in the Doctor Who story 'The Tenth Planet' where he was the first black actor to play an astronaut anywhere in the world.

Fishy_Jim | 1287 comments Tim Smith, driving force of the band Cardiacs and one of the most uniquely creative songwriters, has passed to another realm. I am deeply saddened at the loss of one of my favourite artists. Even though a double stroke and heart attack in 2008 left him mostly paralysed, I always hoped that he may sufficiently recover to find some way of creating music again. As fate would have it, I have been listening to his back catalogue for the last week and a half.

Rest in fadeless splendour, Tim.

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Awww, Denise Johnson, the Singer who performed with Primal Scream, New Order, A Certain Ratio, Ian Brown, Johnny Marr, The Charlatans, Bernard Butler, Beth Orton, The Pet Shop Boys, and Paul Weller amongst others was sadly found dead at her Home earlier today at the age of 53.

It's only been 5 months since Andrew Weatherall suddenly died ;o<

She was always such a big part of the Manchester Music scene, the soundtracks of my teens and twenties, and such a lovely lady too - so it's no great surprise to see all of the tributes pouring in and being posted all over the Internet.

Only a week ago, she had announced that her debut Acoustic Album 'Where Does It Go' would be released on the 25th of September. I already have it on Pre-Order and was enjoying listening to some of the early releases of Tracks from LP over the weekend ;o<

x ... RIP Denise ... x

Such a shame the aftermath led to the eclipse of both parties who'd helped bring the peace process about.

As a fellow aquarist, I feel your pain, Collette. Most of the fish I keep don't have very long lifespans, but I used to keep Clown Loaches and Pimelodella pictus Catfish and when they departed after a good few years, it was a bit of a blow, as was the demise of a female Kribensis that I had raised from an egg (though her mum helped to start with by chasing all the other fish in the tank away).

We never have great luck with Guppies, Jim. They either die after hardly any time, or as happened a couple of years back produce far too many babies.

Was away at my Mum's for a couple of days there, came home this morning, and what's in the tank...a new Red Tailed Black Shark. Compared to my other Blackie, he's so small. Just hope he lasts as long.

message 787: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Awww, I know I've said it before, Collette, but nevertheless I'll still say it again ... you've got yourself a real good 'un there in your lovely D ;o>

I used to have to keep a 24 hour watch for any imminent babies suddenly appearing in our Tank or else, sadly, they would usually get eaten. We used to keep them separated from the adults by catching them up in a net as fast as we could and putting them into an immersed mesh enclosure that was attached to the inside of the Tank - until they were big enough to risk releasing them back into the Tank with their parents and all of the other Fish again.

Our Black Mollies were extremely fertile and especially fond of wanting to eat their own babies! ;oO

message 788: by Collette (last edited Aug 07, 2020 01:21AM) (new)

Collette | 6189 comments Yeah, he has his moments, but he's a good soul, Suzy.

Talking about things getting eaten...We had a snail problem in the tank a couple of years back. We got 3 Clown Loaches to help, and yep, they got rid of all the snails. Only problem was they then move onto my Cherry Shrimp. The last straw was when I saw 2 of them ripping a Shrimp apart. I'm shouting at D "Get those wee B******s out of my f*****g tank!" He was trying to catch them and one of the little horrors jumped out and landed on the carpet. They should be glad we gave them away and didn't flush them down the bloody toilet. Surprised I didn't suffer nightmares after witnessing that one.

Brass Neck | 3979 comments Nature red in scale and fin?

When I was a kid we had a solitary goldfish in a small bowl devoid of ornaments or any other feature of interest. Such was the poor bugger's depth of ennui that it threw itself out of said rather small bowl on to the floor. It was noticed fairly quickly and returned to the bowl but it just lay almost motionless on its side. My nan was there as it was a Thursday, her day to come up and jointly clean our house with my mum (what a weird concept of family visiting!), whereupon she declared, "Give it some brandy". Not sure we had brandy, it being nowhere near Xmas, but a small amount of some other spirit was put on a teaspoon and administered to the goldfish. It was put back in its bowl, did about 20 seconds of whirling dervishesque zoomies and ......... promptly died. Thus endeth my fish-keeping for life.
