Anna and Margo - Thrilling in Tandem

Anna and I have chosen the thriller Behind Her Eyes.

We aim to start in or around 9th February. It will be my first read by Sarah Pinborough and I have high hopes as I've heard good things about it 😊

Well the first 10 chapters flew by! That is often the with way with short chapters. I'm really liking it so far - hope you are too Anna.

Then, Later, Now. I found these 3 sections quite confusing as I had no time reference. Apart from that little quibble I really like the way the story is shaping up.

The two woman at the centre are very different. Louisa seems likable and down to earth - if a bit too attractive for my liking *whing*! She's honest and funny - the kind of woman you'd like as a friend. To find that your (nearly) pick-up from last night is your new boss must be quite a shock, but she carried it off very well!

Adele is a different kettle of fish! She seems very manipulative. I am interested to find out what makes her tick. Slightly less interested to discover how the cat died as I don't thing I'm gonna like it 😒 I want to know more about the fire that killed her parent and about Davids part in it. Is she controlled by David due to her problems or his own? What are these rages she refers to? In stories it is often true that the psychiatrist is crazier than the patients 😉

I've not read your spoiler yet as I am only up to chapter 6. I love short punchy chapters - I also find I read a book quicker when it is laid out that way. I also like the multiple points of view. I've not skipped forward to check but I wonder if we will have any chapters dedicated to David - so far I've just read chapters with Louise and Adele.

I also think that Adele will be an unreliable narrator because of (view spoiler)[ what appears to be a possible drinking problem (hide spoiler)].

I wonder if David is (view spoiler)[ really an abusive husband as it appears from the narrative so far? Or is it really Adele that has the issues?? (hide spoiler)]

OK, so my view is being swayed! I am up to chapter 9 and David (view spoiler)[sounds like a complete control freak! But, I can't help but wonder if there is a reason because of Adele's past which we have only had hints about. I wonder what happened to the cat?? (hide spoiler)]

I like how were are being drip fed information - enough to keep you guessing and reading and questioning what is going on but without any confusion.

Anna, I am loving the writing style too! The chapters are short but not annoyingly short (as in Into the Water). The duel pov is great but (view spoiler)[ I too would like to hear from David - I think that could answer many of my questions! I don't trust him, probably because we haven't hear from him. On the other hand would I believe any more than I do Adele? And that poor cat!! Knowing what happened there would by very enlightening ! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 15 (view spoiler)[ Is Louise insane getting into that situation?! Going behind her bosses back to be friends with his wife is asking for trouble imo. I wanted to scream "say no! I'm still not sure if David has the issues or if it is Adele or perhaps they both do and just feed off of each other.

I like Louise as a character. I have this horrible feeling something bad is going to happen to her. I am more intrigued by Adele and David and like you what happened during the fire and Adele's life thereafter. (hide spoiler)]

Yes Anna, i noticed (view spoiler)[ that both mc's suffered from night terrors, plus the boy who was in the institution along with Adele. I hadn't picked up on the drinking though! I'm nervous for L too.

I was reading more last night and a weird thought came into my head. I don't think there is anyway this could be it bu (view spoiler)[wouldn't it be a plot twist if Adele and Louise are one and the same and David has a dual personality too? (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 27 (view spoiler)[ I'd decided that David and Adele were trying to get Loise pregnant to take the baby from her, kill her, and bury the body on that remote estate up in scotland. Looks like I was off the the mark there. That is one twisted marriage!

I know - I have no idea how I would explain it! I'm up to chapter 24 and I am taking it with me on holiday so hopefully I will be able to post when away.

I just can't work out what (view spoiler)[Adele is playing at. She wants Louise and David to be together - or at least I think she does - but why? And David's relationship with that addict is odd - I can't remember the guys name. It is all very strange! (hide spoiler)]

OMG I think I've got it! chpt 47 (view spoiler)[ this is kind of out there for a thriller but I'm thinking body transfer. If my theory is right it ties in everything, starting with Rob, or maybe earlier. Need to find a new "victim" who suffers with nightmares as these provide a "doorway" - literally - into the new hosts life. Maybe I have watched too many horror films but I like this theory - if I'm wrong then this is how it should have been LOL

I finished this two days ago and the ending blew my socks off!! I haven't enjoyed a thriller so much in a long time. I would highly recommend this book.

I'm back!! Absolutely shattered but had a fantastic time. Will read through spoilers and post thoughts tomorrow if that is OK Margo.

I decided I could live with my thorn, (discussed in PM), and will be giving this 5*s. Such a unique addictive read.

Now that I have finished the book, I think that if chapters from David's POV had been included this might have (view spoiler)[ affected the flow of the story. By not having his POV, we had lots of questions that remained unanswered and as readers had to decide who we believed - Adele or David. (hide spoiler)]

I was exactly the same as you Margo! (view spoiler)[I got so frustrated with Louise. Some of the decisions she made I was like "What?? Really?? Are you nuts??. You just wouldn't become best buddies with the wife of the guy you are cheating with. You would be asking for trouble. But then, as we now know, this was a very important element of the story. I think it was just to easy that Louise and Adele became friends so quickly though. It may have been better, for the sake of another 20 to 30 pages to draw this out a bit. (hide spoiler)]

Margo, I am so impressed that you worked out what was going on!! I managed to work out the second twist (view spoiler)[ that Rob was actually Adele and wanted to then become Louise (hide spoiler)].

A very interesting thriller with a (view spoiler)[fantastical element.
This is so different from other thrillers I have read - in fact,
I cannot think of another thriller with such an interesting plot twist (hide spoiler)].
