I was definitely not expecting the fairy tale aspects but I'm loving them a whole lot! I'm not familiar with the games but is the deal that Geralt makes in 'A Question of Price' a hint for Ciri? (I think that is her name?)
My favourite character has to be Geralt for now, he is so interesting and I love to see what he experiences in his life as a witcher even though it doesn't seem to be an easy life!
As for side characters it has to be Renfri, I felt so bad for her. I also felt sad for Nivellen and I loved his attitude towards his curse!
I just finish the book. I liked it better this time. The Question of Price was such a bitter sweet story for me.I agree Renfri is a great side character. I was tempted to say Dandelion, but there is some annoying side to him.
I am loving myself some Dandelion lol.He is soooo funny, but also a good sidekick.
It may just be me, but one of the side effects to using fairy tales as blueprints is that it seems women (e.g. striga, vampire, Renfri, Pavetta) are often put in an adversarial position with Geralt in these stories. But the stories are still written in such a way that Geralt and the monsters he has to fight are equally matched, which is a credit to Sapkowski's storytelling.
I just finished. I love Dandelion also, I can't wait to start the next book. I am glad Tallis got it. Falwick and him really tick me off. I love the whole fairy tale aspect of the stories. Thanks for the read along. It is fun reading what every one thinks and how they interpret the stories.
Does anyone understand what Geralt's last wish was?It had to be more than just wanting to sleep with Yennefer because she reacted as if he'd done something really magnanimous.
It's not explicitly stated but essentially he wished for their fates to be tied together which leads to a lot of awkwardness for them going forward.
Well i think Geralt asked for something like him and Yennefer always being together, cause Yennefer said to him later that she doesn't know if there is such a force in nature which could grant this wish and if there is then he had condemned himself to her.
Wild Hunt explores all this a bit more, but the wish was to essentially bind their destinies. Also, as a side note, if you think about the exact words of Geralt's incantation....you may understand why the djinn was so angry.
Hey everyone! Due to Uni and wedding planning taking up all my time, I got a little behind on the reading =/.Thankfully I've now caught up! The two sets of short stories down, the novels to go! @Elliot, what are the planned allocated reading chunks for Blood of Elves?
I read The Last Wish just last month. Great collection of short stories that enticed me to continue with the entire series (now on Baptism of Fire).Geralt, of course, is a favorite main character. Favorite side character...that's tough. Likely Dandelion.

Was this read-a-long just for The Last Wish or does it continue?
I already finished Sword of Destiny, and am almost done with Blood of Elves.
Elliot got me hooked and now I can't stop lol.

These stories are addicting. The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny were fine collections, but Blood of Elves really hooked me. And things just more amazing with Time of Contempt. Just started Baptism of Fire and am LOVING it.
