Annerlee | 2873 comments Re your thoughts on chapter 3 (view spoiler) I hadn't made any connection between chapter 3 and what went before, thinking this is a different group of people in the same universe (view spoiler)

Annerlee | 2873 comments Sorry for not posting too much over the last wee while. I've recently started a new job and it's taken over a lot more of my time and energy than I expected. In a good way though. I'm just sorry the discussion has suffered as a result. : (

I'll crack on with my reading tonight.

Annerlee | 2873 comments Sarah wrote: "I really like Gibson's writing style and I've got used to not knowing what's going on when I read his stuff. Same for a few other authors who write in a similar way. Neuromancer is worth a read tho..."

I will give it another try at some point, next time I'm going through a surreal sort of phase ; ) I often try to overthink things rather than go with the flow ..

Sarah | 18550 comments You raised some great points in your spoilers. You've clearly been putting a lot of thought in to the story. I will come back and comment tomorrow.

Sarah | 18550 comments I think I mentioned somewhere already but with books like this, I often plough through it and expect things to fall in to place for me. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. I think on the whole, it did for this book. Sure there were some things that I couldn't quite square away. If I had spent longer on it, perhaps reading through the glossary of terms and looking things up I might have had a better understanding. But I still thoroughly enjoyed the book. I've enjoyed reading your insights as you have looked at things differently to me and looked up terms that I have just glossed over. It's definitely a multi-layered book.

With regards to the Oubliettes, I assumed they were just residents of the Oubliette. Although that could be a little too simplistic perhaps.

I agree about the gevulot - the personal firewall. Awesome idea. But also I quite like that they can send a co-memory to people as a message rather than speaking/explaining things. That would also be quite useful.
