Hello, my name is Nikki, I'm 28 and live in Louisiana. I work for an escape room as a game master and also as the corporate sales and events coordinator. I mainly read sci-fi, erotica, historical, fantasy, non-fiction, and horror. Though I dabble in other genres as well.
When I'm not working or reading I enjoy board games, tabletop role play, watching documentaries for fun, and terrible and not terrible creature features.
Hi, i'm Stephanie and i'll be 29 February 10th. I live in New Jersey. I'm disabled and can't work. I like to read, play video games, watch and make booktube videos, spend too much time on the internet, and I want to learn how to draw but haven't done much yet.My favorite genres are horror, paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and some contemporary. What I read though goes all over the place. All types of fantasy, science fiction, erotica, non-fiction (well i've barely dabbled there but want to read more)...and anything that catches my interest. I have also really gotten into graphic novels.
I don't watch many shows, I don't even have cable. But thanks to the internet (and cwtv.com) I watch Supernatural and iZombie. I do have netflix but don't watch it much...I mostly just add stuff to my list and never watch them. Well there is fuller house (nostalgia) and Stranger Things.. :)
I am also a huge Buffy fan.

Hello :) My name is Dita and I am 19 years old. I live in Brno, Czech Republic. I study medicine and therefore my personal life is suffering of lack of time :D My favourite genres are sci-fi, fantasy, LGBT+, contemporary and graphic novels. But I will also read anything that comes my way.
As I said, I don't have much spare time, but when I do, I watch too much youtube. I also listen to a lot of music like Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco and Green Day. And I started a blog about books this year, but it is written in czech, so you can't (probably) read it :(
Hi, I'm Scot, I'm 31 and live in southern California. I'm just a few months away from wrapping up a Ph.D. in earth system science and I work as a SCUBA instructor. I read just about any genre, but my favorites are speculative fiction (particularly sci-fi, horror, and fantasy, though not always in that order), classical fiction, modern fiction, psychology, natural sciences, physical sciences, philosophy, medicine, and anything related to scuba diving. I get really into graphic novels from time to time as well, and I have books I love that don't fit into any of the above categories at all.
When I'm not working or reading, I dive for fun (I love diving shipwrecks, they are simultaneously so beautiful and tragic), camp, and backpack. I like woodworking, tabletop RPGs, board games, gardening, and scotch.

Thanks for the invite. My name’s Erin. I’m 38 and a single mother of two kiddos (ages 6 & 8). Most of my free time is committed to them. I live in Arkansas and work in the emergency management field. I love my work though I came into this field by accident really.I’ve been making a point these past couple of years to expand on the types of books that I read. Horror, Paranormal, and Mystery were all that I really read for years. Now I find myself reading Historical Fiction, Graphic Novels, Fantasy, Poetry, and Classics. So, I look forward to seeing what we get into here as a group.
I gave up cable a couple of years back. So, Netflix and Hulu is where I get most of my television these days.
Anyway, looking forward to chatting books with you guys.

Thanks for the invite, Nikki. :-)I'm from Germany, and work as a bookseller. I read as much as I can, with a number of other hobbies which aren't all compatible with holding a book. ;-) I'm kind of a book hoarder.
I gravitate strongly towards Fantasy and SciFi, but read all kinds of other genres, too, including some non-fiction. Also, I try to read outside my usual "haunts" as much as I dare.

I have a thing for historical fiction that is set in ancient Rome/Greece or London, I love mystery, poetry I'm even dabbling in non-fiction.

I'll have to take a look through your shelves for some historical fiction recommendations. I'd love to read more historical books set in Rome and London.

Welcome Colleen, glad you found us :)Since you said you were getting into science fiction and fantasy I would recommend Hyperion for sci-fi and The Hobbit for fantasy. I really loved both of those books and I'm sure other members will have lots of books to recommend.

Hyperion ROCKS! (So does The Hobbit, but it's a lot more well known than Hyperion, so I figure I should promote Hyperion whenever I can :-P )
I like the sun also rises and the court light series by terah edun. Really nerdy I know but I have a crazy imagination it keeps me busy. Is there a term for different types of sci-fi / fantasy readers?
Thanks Nikki! I actually think my dad has a copy of the hobbit laying around somewhere. Now I have no excuse not to read it. I will try not to judge it by the movie.

There are definitely sci-fi and fantasy subgenres, such as hard sci-fi, soft sci-fi, space opera, high fantasy, urban fantasy, etc.

Hello all. My name is Jenny, I am 52, and live in Phoenix, AZ, where I own a picture framing shop. I read mainly fiction in any genre as long as it is well written and engaging. I have been reading a lot of good sci-fi and speculative fiction lately. I also am a big physics, neuroscience, and philosophy nerd, so any new books from some of my favorite scientists are always on my list.
If I am not reading, (books at home, audio books at work), then I am paying way too much attention to politics, going out for good meals with friends, seeing the occasional movie, watching my Wisconsin Badgers football, hockey, and basketball teams, or cheering on my Packers, playing with my two kitties, and trying every single malt really good scotch that I can afford to put in my liquor cabinet. I am also trying to fall in love with walking around my neighborhood for exercise, but Phoenix is one big grid, and it is really boring. I may just stick to my treadmill.
I love recommending books to people, so I may do that here as well. I am the lending library for my friends and family, since I tend to buy all the books that catch my eye.

Hi,I do custom picture framing, so really i frame everything from paintings to posters to jerseys to memorabilia to fine art and photographs. I've had my shop for twenty two years, so I have framed pretty much anything you can think of. It is nice for me, that I can listen to books when I am not helping customers (or using the saw).
Merry Meet, I'm Kensley. I am a secretary for a local trucking company, a student majoring in creative writing for entertainment, a wife, and a mother. I rarely average 6 hours of sleep a night, so if you look up the term "mombie", you'll see a picture of me for its definition.
I write, a lot. And I read, a lot.
I read crime, thrillers, mystery, historical fiction (no later than late 1800s), horror, YA, NA, fantasy, sci-fi, and literature.
Apart from reading, I enjoy board games, video games, movies, and TV shows. Don't underestimate me. I can watch a whole season of Downton Abbey in less than a day, sometimes two.

Ooooh what are some of your favorite board games?? Co-op with defector style games are my favorite. I also just love heavily thematic board games as well.

Ah, a fellow scotch aficionado! Which single malts do you lean towards? I also love scotch and spend probably way too much on it. The two I always have to keep on hand are Talisker 10 or 18 and Lagavulin 16. How about you?
Scot,My scotch collection is a bit over the top. I have probably a dozen different ones on the shelf currently, and some Irish, and some bourbon. And I don't drink much. I just like choices, and sharing. My current favorites are Glenmorangie 15, Bruichladdich 3D3 (I can't find any more of this one), and Lagavulin 16. For bourbon, Willets, and for Irish, Redbreast 15.
I am always looking for recommendations, so feel free to suggest good bottles to me.

I drink all whiskeys as well, not just single malt scotch. The Willet Small Batch 3yr Rye is quite possibly my favorite rye whiskey! I haven't tried their bourbon though; I'll keep an eye out for it. Booker's Cask Strength, Angel's Envy, and Four Roses small batch have been my go-to bourbons recently. If you haven't tried it, Glenkinchie makes a mighty tasty single malt, as does Ardbeg (for HEAVY smoke try the 10yr, for heavy smoke, peat, and heat check out Uigeadail and Corryvreckan.) I have unfortunately not tried many Irish whiskeys; I'll check out Redbreast 15 if I can find it.
I appreciate recommendations too, so please feel free to suggest bottles to me as well.

Scot,I love the Ardbeg as well. I have tried the ones you listed as well as a couple, years ago when it was easier to get the older bottles. Alas, as more people are realizing how amazing good whiskey is, it is becoming harder (and more expensive) to get the more mature bottles.
I have the Willet's rye as well, and it has become a favorite. If you like really peaty, then try the Caol Ila. And I'm guessing that you have tried the Balvenie 17 year old. If not, do.
Jenny,Caol Ila and Balvenie 17 are both great! I do like really peaty, but honestly, I like all kinds as long as it's of good quality. Basically, just like you said, good whiskey is amazing.

I mainly read urban fantasy and historical fiction, but definitely go straight up fantasy, sci-fi, pop fiction, thriller, mystery, etc. on occasion. I work in marketing & communications at a company with over 250k people globally - long hours & travel sometimes, but I get to work from home, so when it isn't busy I can relax in my pajamas. :) Been married for over 20 years, no kids, two greyhounds and lots of travel. I love reading though I had to stop all together when I was going to Uni and working full time. I started again just a few years ago.
I read mostly fiction, my favorite genre is psychological thriller and mysteries though I read also sci-fi, horror, fantasy, and others.
