I read four books about speaking to Dragons. Can't remember the title great hit with my tyeenage (then) son, who listened to it and could not fall asleep= we read it in Bulgarian translation. I 've heard that Russian translation - "Selected Novels" are also good.

When I read some contemporary fantasy, then go back to a favourite Le Guin, I am once again impressed by the quality of her writing. Her fantasy spans such a wide range of genres; I don't like everything she wrote, but everything she wrote, she wrote WELL.

Her Tao-based spirituality informs so much of her work; at times when I have been hard-pressed to find a metaphor for a life-change I am going through, by the magic of synchronicity the novel I just happen to be reading has provided the answer. For example, Ged's recognition of his Shadow; in "The Telling", the maxim (paraphrased) "In order to change the pattern, you must be part of the weaving". Her paraphrase of the "Tao Te Ching" is my favourite version.

I started to compose a piece of music called "The Tao of Ea" based on A Wizard of Earthsea and her Tao Te Ching, but felt a bit overwhelmed by the task, so (alas) I never applied for permission. Based on past experience, I doubt I would get a licence from her estate lawyers now.
