Life Of Pi Thread #2

Hey everyone! Now that we are all hopefully aware of the ending (if anyone needs a final clarification the journey of Pi has two versions. One with the animals and Richard Parker, and another where the animals are people and Richard Parker is Pi). I would like to analyze the book through this lens. First, as the story progresses, in the story with Richard Parker what is he symbolize? And if anyone has opinions on what the other animals represent please share.
