Alicia | 167 comments Hi everyone, I hope you're enjoying the book so far. The plot moves pretty fast. What did you think of the prophesy? Do you think you have it figured out?

Athina (booknotes_athina) | 21 comments The book s great so far

Judith | 18 comments I really enjoy books that include mystery tidbits like the prophecy in this book...I think I have some parts figured out and time will tell!

SarahKat | 6282 comments The plot does move fast and I like that about this book since we're listening to it. I'm so glad this was the February read. I was worried about what we were going to listen to after Harry Potter. Definitely planning on continuing with this series!

I've had some thoughts on the prophecy, but nothing really nailed down.

Rekha Shane I think the prophecy means that the thing that really matters (I think this is his mother) he will fail at recovering. And the bit about a friend betraying him will probably be less sinister than it sounds e.g. they might save his life which then stops him being with his mum.
This kids reaction to the prophecy really irritated me though... I'm about to face a dangerous quest and am given useful information in a prophecy but I'll only share half of it with the people that are trying to help me because that's just the way I roll...! Sigh...

Totally agreed.
I love the plot of this book and I'm going to continue with the series, but I feel like Percy is being such a brat about sharing information with his friends.
I'm having a hard time understanding his thought process.

Part of me is wondering if Percy's mom is some kind of deity as well...like she's going to end up living in the ocean with Poseidon after everything is said and done.

That's kind of what I was thinking as well about the prophecy. And yes he is being sort of stupid by not telling people the entire prophecy. I mean, he JUST landed in this world; he should be accepting and asking for all the help he can get, especially when it comes to life-threatening quests!

That's an interesting thought. I don't know about that, but I do think she knows Poseidon is Percy's dad. Annabeth (I think) had said that some mortals don't know the father/mother is a god because they disguise themselves, but I got the feeling that Percy's mom knows exactly who he was.

Ashley (ashleym99) | 1441 comments This is different than what I usually read but I am enjoying it. I agree that Percy should have told everyone the prophecy and he will fail at finding his mom. I think him mom knows who his father was because of the ways in which she tried to protect him and knew about the camp and that she wouldn't be able to get into it but he would.
