The book “In the Heat of the Night” is about a police officer named Sam, who finds a carcass in the middle of a highway. When he looks into the case, he discovers that its the man who is running the upcoming music festival. Then he tries to solve the case. It is a mystery novel that is 200-page book an easy read and written in an informal style. The book starts out with Sam on night duty. He then goes to dinner and starts to talk about the upcoming music festival with some of his friends. When he leaves the restaurant, he gets in his car and drives down a highway. He discovers a body in the middle of the road, so he goes to investigate and discovers that it is the man who is running the music festival. The book does a really good job at the plot. I love the way the story transitions in the beginning because there is lots of foreshadowing. The story is super ominous when the body in the road is being described. The theme of the book is hard work pays off. The excruciating long case shows Sam’s perseverance and determination to deal justice back into the evil spewing out unkind deeds and hatred. The book seems to be meant for older readers due to its choice of language. This book left me wondering at night. I couldn't go to bed, I just kept thinking about the story. I enjoyed pretty much everything about the book, except for some of the characters that wear a portrayed as a cliche cop. The book felt complete, but the ending was a bit casual. I wasn't that fond of the ending, but it wasn't the world worst end. This was not my favorite book of all time, but I don't like mystery genre anyways. For a mystery book, it was amazing. My favorite part of the book was probably the middle when things get heated. If I was the author I would have made things more intense. The book was serious and scary, but at times it was not that engaging. I would rate this book 4 out of 5 stars because of the action, and the complex crime that takes place in the book.
