I startet the book a few days ago but only made it to chapter two and got distracted by other books...
Before startig the book I had to read a few summarys of Book 1 and 2 because I forgot sooo much!

I got quite of bit of reading done over the last 3 days, for me anyway. I'm on Part 10 Chapter I, page 405. (view spoiler)[ Lila and Kell finally take it to the next level. That was kind a steamy scene. I was a little surprised. Also, I am loving the back story on Holland. And the whole floating black market on a ship is interesting. Still waiting to see how they are going to get this Inheritor from Maris. And the fact that Kell's coat once belonged to her was interesting as well. I had thought while reading the last two books that Kell had made it himself. (hide spoiler)]

Part 10 Chapter V (view spoiler)[ Kell might not want to know what those memories are that he can't remember, but I do! So frustrating. On a more positive note, I really enjoyed reading about the trading and bartering on the black market ship. I don't think I would give up any years of my life for one of those items though. I thought Lila was smart with her bartering until she traded an unknown favor for the eye. I wonder what she will end up having to do. Surely nothing good. Don't read unless you've finished the book (view spoiler)[ I am so incredibly frustrated that we never learn the secrets about Kell's past....UGH! I also feel like the other Londons took a back seat here. I would have loved for them to have somehow fixed the broken Londons. Also what was the point of having that scene when Berras (I think that was his name), Alucard's brother meets Osaron? It seemed like it was going to go somewhere and then it was nothing. In the first book I liked Lila ok, but in each successive book she got on my nerves a little more. And we never find out what kind of favor she will have to trade for the eye. I liked Kell in all the books, but I do feel like he was not a strong enough protagonist. He ended up being too overshadowed by other characters. For these reasons I am giving the book 3.5 stars instead of 4. (hide spoiler)]

Book 2 for me was by far the best.

I read this too and I liked it a lot over all but the ending totally killed it for me. (view spoiler)[becaut was so unresolved with Kell's backstory and Lila with the favor and I thought there'd be some consequences for what she and Alucard did to Stasion Elsor. Also, (though some of this might just be my general dislike for Alucard as a person) I don't see how he and Rhy can really be together because an heir is required for a hereditary monarchy, and lol not to state that obvious, but...that's quite an impossiblity there. And if they just adopted, the other royal and noble houses would likely use that as a loophole to secure the throne. Also, Alucard didn't really change much as a person, while Rhy changed a lot, and a summer fling, though passionate, isn't love, and neither is passionate action when faced with danger. It's just not, sorry. I don't see them working long term. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I basically agree with everything you said about the end of the book Tammie. It felt really unresolved. Like an un-ending. I feel like there could be a whole other book exploring Kell's past and seriously, what favour is Lila going to have to give?

The part on the boat (I already forget the name) with the mirror, rings and Inheritor was one of the more interesting parts of the book and to leave both Lila's favour and Kell's past unresolved feels kind of cheap to me....I'm also going with 3.5 stars.

I don't have as much as an issue with Alucard and Rhy being together other than the no heir hiccup. Maybe Kell and Lila will have a baby and that kid will take the throne since Kell is legally their son? But yea, really didn't feel like an ending at all. Kind of disappointing really. I know I'm more than a month late... It took me forever to finish this book. But I read all your spoilers and I think you all made a very good point. It was a 3.5 Star read for me too but I rounded it up to 4 (view spoiler)[ There were things bothering me, most of them you already mentioned. For example that we never learned about Kells past or Lila's favour. But I kind of liked the unresolved ending. It wasn't a huge cliffhanger and more an open endling leaving the rest to imagination. In my opinion Hollands storyline and the ending was very well written and I absolutely happy that we don't get a fluffy happy ending for everyone. Even the 'Happy Ends' for both of the couples weren't too cheesy. It also wasn't said that Rhy and Alucard will be an official couple and will be together forever, so I'm fine with it. If it was just a summer fling, maybe they will part after a little while. :) (hide spoiler)]

Nor do I have a problem with Rhy and Alucard - if the society accepts their relationship, they might also accept Rhy sleeping with a woman once (or as many times as it takes to get her pregnant) just to have an heir. A few questions:

Ch 6, Section II - It is implied that Lila does some magic to convince the guards to leave the dungeon where Holland is being held, to give her some time alone with him. Holland wonders "if the new guard knew what he'd done. It was the kind of magic forbidden in this world, and worshipped in his own." But the he in he'd - is that Holland? At first it reads "Holland felt a strange thing happen." implying that it is not he who did the magic (and he's shackled to restrict his magic in any case), so who would he be?

Ch 9, Section IV - Alucard intrudes on Lila's room on the ship, interrupting her and Kell. He is wet. It is implied that Lila and Kell's foreplay is rocking the ship. Is this a magical thing?

Ch 15, Section III - Kell tells Ned to give his king (Grey) a letter from Rhy (Red) saying that it will be the last. Why the last?

The end - It's implied that Holland just dies. Why though? Was he sick? Was it some kind of suicide? Why did he want to die in White London?
The end - Lila's wanderlust fits her character, but it doesn't feel as natural for Kell. It's not stated what they're aiming to do besides see the world. Any thoughts? (hide spoiler)]
