JSWolf | 649 comments The cover for the Penguin version of Passing by Nella Larsen is incorrect. It's not an older cover, it's just wrong.

This is the URL for the listing with the wrong cover. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8...

This is the URL for the correct cover from the publisher. The cover used in the GR listing is for the paperback version.

Please use the hi-res version of the correct cover as it will scale down to a good lower res cover. Thanks.

Jon

Empress (the_empress) Penguin constantly reprints with newer covers.

JSWolf | 649 comments I don't think this is an alternate cover edition. Can you please prove that the cover in use now is the original cover for the ePub eBook? I think when whoever entered the listing fount the paperback cover and used that.

Even Google books shows the cover I linked as the cover. The date given for the Google Books entry is Feb 04, 2003.

https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=t...

So give that's the date this edition is published, that would mean the cover shown is the correct cover.

It is not our job to "prove" anything.

The cover does not have to be the original one. The first one added to the database stays, unless it can be proven it is incorrect. Can you prove this was never the cover for the ebook? (It was added by an import bot, by the way, not by a user.)

Empress (the_empress) The pub. date is obviously wrong, but that does not mean the cover is. Also since this is an ebook all sellers will always show the latest cover as it is very easily updated by scripts and auto-updates. That also does not mean the other cover is wrong.

You guessing someone has used the paperback cover is just that - a guess (not the entry was not created by a user). I also don't need to prove anything. I am following the rules that are valid for all users and librarians. You can see them here and here

JSWolf | 649 comments I linked to Google books that shows the cover and a date of February 4, 2003 which is when it was published. Is there anything wrong with this link I posted?

message 7: by Empress (new)

Empress (the_empress) Publishers mostly show the original pub date regardless of any cover updates, which means the date will match when an edition was first published, not when an edition was published with the currently displayed cover. As sellers pick the data from the publishers website or other sources that duplicate that data, those are not really proof of what you are saying.

Unfortunately there is no way you can prove that the ebook did not use the cover the ISBN edition is currently showing. You will have to shelve the ACE edition.

Google Books is not an approved source.

Empress (the_empress) #9 Thanks Tim. Confirmed and added contribution to both ACE editions (paperback and ebook).
