Colleen Earle (unphilosophize) My owner TBR was sitting around 180 books at the end of 2017 and for some reason I still bought a wack more books so far this year. I need help.
I’ve made a yearly TBR of classics that I’ve owned for ages so 13 books should get knocked off quite quickly, but I’m really hoping to make it to the top of this mountain and maybe start another.

Colleen Earle (unphilosophize) Book 1: The Power - Naomi Alderman
Personally I found this book to be disappointing. I didn’t really enjoy the story and I didn’t jive with the writing style. I bought this in 2017 and read the first 20 pages on December 31st. I ended up finishing it on January 3rd and entered a three day reading slump.

Colleen Earle (unphilosophize) Book 2: As You Wish - Cary Elwes
The Princess Bride is my all time favourite movie and I loved the book when I read it 7 years ago. My parents gave me this book about Elwes experience making the movie 2 years ago for my birthday and I was really nervous about reading it because I thought it might ruin Weasley for me. I WAS WRONG. This book is a fantastic read and one of my favourites so far this year. I rated it 5/5

Colleen Earle (unphilosophize) Book 3: Clariel - Garth Nix
One of the things that I did last year to tackle some of my owned TBR (because I didn’t know this was a thing and now I’m living for it) was read the Old World Trilogy which I received from my parents for Christmas when I was still a teenager (!!)
I have no idea why I never picked it up and I ended up falling in love with the series and bought Clariel in December to get free shipping on a Christmas gift that my brother was buying.
I really enjoyed this book but nothing can beat Lirael. I rated it a 4/5

Colleen Earle (unphilosophize) Book 4: The Just City - Jo Walton
I bought this book early last year and was really looking forward to reading it after I accidentally read the second book in the series, Philosopher Kings, in December of 2016. I was so impressed with this novel. It is so amazing. I rated it a 5/5 and I can’t wait to reread the second book and get to the third.

Colleen Earle (unphilosophize) Book 5: The Possessed - Fyodor Dostoyevsky
After battling for a week a conquered this 700 page monster. It was a really strange book but I think I like it. I found the narration style was really readable but didn’t really make me want to read. The ending was rough, though.
I rated it a 3 stars.
Since then I’ve finished 2 and a half books that I bought in January. 🎉

Lucy Whedon (lucette) | 2 comments Congrats! My favorite Dostoyevsky is The Idiot - also strange, but in a different way.
