A fun but illuminating visual gateway to the history of Troy and the epic itself is Michael Wood's "In Search of the Trojan War". It is fascinating. It has been a few years since I watched it so I should watch it again. He combines geographical locations, archaeology, speculations and quotes from The Iliad to illuminate the epic's history and influence. Recommended! Many of you have probably already seen it. Six one hour episodes - here is the first one:

In usual BBC style a book quickly followed the documentary. As an introduction to the topic it is actually decent as well as evocative : In Search of the Trojan War by Michael Wood

Haaze | 32 comments Of course! :) All six episodes are available on YouTube. It is a little dated, but it is very well done. Michael Wood's musings are very enjoyable as he engages in a six hour quest to visualize the Iliad in a historical/archaeological context. It is definitely very poetic and inspirational. It definitely makes one want to read The Iliad (or read it again).

Thanks so much, Haaze -- wonderful idea to provide a link for resources, and what a valuable resource to begin with!

Kathleen | 44 comments That looks amazing--thank you Haaze! I know what you meant, but I had to laugh about a documentary about the Iliad being dated. :-)
