ABANDONED. Description in the back was about a man, who grew up without a father and how genetics work?

Years ago I remember reading back cover of a book.
it told short story about a man, who grew up without a father, but ended up in the same prison for the same crime as his father. They both also liked to play checkers (or might have been chess).
Book was in Estonian, so I'm not even sure if it was originally in English, but most likely it was. By now, it could be at least 5 yrs+ old book.

What's the time period and location of the story - country, region, big city/small town?

What type of crime? Is he involved in organized crime?

Fiction or non-fiction (biography)?

I have now idea when and even where I read description of that book. Could have been library.

I read only what was written on back cover and that's all I remember. I couldn't name any country or city, but most likely English speaking country.

I think their crime was theft or robbery, but I can't be 100%.

Sounded more like non-fiction. Book seemed to be about how genetics influence peoples lives.
