Hope you enjoy this. I have high hopes for this series so I'll be interested to see if you all like it
Patrick wrote: "Hello! I hope this book is good! I have high hopes for it! lol"Same here! I loved the show on TV, but I was told it had little to do with the books...
Patrick wrote: "@Choko There was a TV show?? I never heard of it!"Yeah, they made it in the spirit of Xena and shot it in New Zealand too:) I thought it was very eye-candy like and fun:):):)
@Choko Thats interesting! I know they did the Elfstones of Shannara (Which was NOTHING like the book) but I haven't heard of Wizard's First Rule being a show. I really need to look that up after I read the book!
It was called "Sword of Truth" and it lasted a season and a half. I personally loved it in that sort of cheesy way such shows work. 😀😀😀
Actually, it was "Legend of the Seeker" ;)It was probably comparable to Shannara as far as how it took ideas from the book and made a cheesy/fun/eye candy show out of it.
I liked this book quite well when I listened to it on audio some dozen years ago...
I loved Legend of the Seeker!!!!!! I had no idea! I'm gonna try to get in on this one as it's on my books to read this year. Depends on how quick I get through Iron Gold!! Omg!!
I'm downloading the audio right now so it will be ready. I will follow along in my book! I always wished that show would have continued and I loved when that dude would take off his shirt 😂🤣. Don't judge me!! 😄
I really liked the show. It contained the essence of the book and I loved the woman who played Kahlan. I wish they'd kept going. The "special" effects in the first season were delightfully horrible lol.
Ooo, the lady was awesome! She looked so good! Almost as good as the nature around though... That was just beautiful!

Bridget Regan
Oh. There is a movie also. I'll definitely check that out. The "Eye Candy" sounds promising. :DAnd it looks like our group is growing day by day. Yeay!
@Choko - How was Debt of Bones? Are we supposed to read that before the series?
There’s also a discussion for Lies of Locke Lamora if anyone wants to read that too! It starts the 25th of Jan!
OMG! She is just gorgeous! About Debt of Bones... It is very short and I think it is worth reading...
Are you guys planning to read the rest of the books in this series or just the first one? If so what sort of pace are you aiming for? I might be tempted to join in as I've been meaning to give finishing this series a third go for years!
Choko wrote: "That's right! Legend of the seeker, but I thought it was better than Shanara..."It was better than Shannara but definitely still a show in the same style. I recall fans of the SoT books hating Legend of the Seeker but I thought it was light and fun fantasy fare. It is a real pity it never got more seasons as they did a great job with a lot of the casting:)

I say leave Debt of Bones until you have read the first few books in the main series. It is a decent addition to the series but likely spoils a few of the early mysteries much like New Spring would if you read it before the early Wheel of Time books. DoB was published after the 7th book in the series.
Lol I actually saw the whole 1 season of it. I didn't see the 2nd season of it because I don't have that channel now. I kinda liked it. I didn't even it was from a series of books till I joined goodreads. You take them words back or to the dungeons with you! lol
I've started this a tad early since I'm just going to dip in and out and read it slowly.9% in, initial thoughts: Im enjoying the store so far, looking forward to finding out more of the world beyond this town.
Unfortunately I'm not a fan of the writing, the dialogue in particular between the two main characters is juvenile and rather cringey. Cringey dialogue is a real hate of mine so hopefully it'll get better
My predictions so far:
(view spoiler)

If I like the first one enough I'll read the rest but they'll likely be quite spread apart for me as I've got loads on the next few months.
I'll probably only manage one SoT book a month. They are nice fat fantasy books just like the WoT books!
Patrick wrote: "Any show was better than Shannara. It was awful."I actually thought the first season of Shannara was decent enough. That ending with Tree Girl was awful though! I'm struggling with the second season and might just abandon it now that I've heard news it got cancelled by Paramount Channel.
She was supposed to be the new Elcrys to save her people. The only similarities between the book and movie was the ending lol. The guy who played Allanon was horrible for the part.
Patrick wrote: "She was supposed to be the new Elcrys to save her people. The only similarities between the book and movie was the ending lol. I quite like the guy who plays Allanon so I was OK with the character. I like the actor from his time on both Arrow and Spartacus. I'm also not that familiar with the books which likely helps. I only lasted the first two Shannara books and I read them nearly 20 years ago!
Yeah I didn’t like that part in the book either but you knew from the beginning she was as going to be the new Ellcrys. In other books they refer to her as the tree that protects them so it’s all good lol. The Shannara books are great. My favorites though was the Wishong, the Isle Witch, Antrax and Morgawr. They were great!
I was planning to read Shannara this year guys. Is it bad? I'm trying to "not read" your comments when you talk about ending and stuff to avoid spoilers. :D
Shannara is great. The only thing I don’t like is that there are a million of them I can’t keep up with
To tell the truth Patrick, I'm a bit confused with the reading order as they do seem to be many. Which one should I start with?
Laura wrote: "I was planning to read Shannara this year guys. Is it bad? Hopefully you forget all about our babbling by the time you get to the Shannara book that the TV shows covers.
Patrick wrote: "Yeah I didn’t like that part in the book either but you knew from the beginning she was as going to be the new Ellcrys. I only lasted a few of the Shannara books. I thought they were pretty average. Not bad just nothing better than stuff like Dragonlance or Forgotten Realms. I dumped the series to concentrate on more exciting stuff like WoT and SoT.
Gavin if you're sorry about spoilers you shouldn't reply-quote them in your new posts....The show is actually quite different than the books, Laura. It's almost like a different thing altogether, so you should be fine. I'd recommend reading them in published order, starting with The Sword of Shannara.
