Jessica R. | 549 comments I had a couple of great reading years thanks to discovering audiobooks. Unfortunately, I lost interest last year due to constant stress, including beginning the process of separating from my husband. I have always suffered from some pretty intense periods of depression, and focusing on a book or even a TV show has been difficult.

Reading was a significant part of my self care from 2013-2016, and I loved participating in this group for the duration of 2016. I’m going to give it a go again, this time with a goal of 100 books. This is not very high for me when I’m actively listening to audiobooks.

I used to struggle through some books that I didn’t necessarily find interesting simply because they were on my TBR shelf, or I was so focused on reaching my goal that I didn’t want to stop partway through. This year I will be picking books that I am confident I will enjoy, and allowing others to collect digital dust for the time being.

So this is less about the numbers and my own desire to read a healthy variety of books, and instead about learning to find joy and beauty in language (and stimulating my brain again).

Happy to be back, and looking forward to participating in 2018 :)

Jessica R. | 549 comments I should also note that I’ll be allowing myself to reread some of my favorite books this year.

Hi Jessica, so sorry to hear about your struggles. I know how hard it can be to focus on anything while you’re fighting just to get through another day. I hope 2018 will be a turn around for you, that you will feel better and find a lot of beautiful reads which will rekindle your joy in reading. May 2018 be your year!
