ABANDONED. Children's book about the moon and the ocean

Possibly an Egyptian style personification of the moon and/or ocean. A girl, maybe a princess and her and/or her lover turn into the moon or the ocean and she longs to see them. It's been so long since I've read it I'm even fuzzy on the details. Any help would be amazing!!
