I’m looking for a book series I read quite a while ago(2005?). I know it was a series and it was either y/a fantasy or y/a sci-fi. The main character was a teenager-pretty sure she had red curly hair-as the book series goes on it appears that her younger sister has powers too. I’m pretty sure they had a single dad-the mom died or something before the start of the series-and I know for a fact that in one book(4 or 5 I think) they go to Ireland-dad too-stay in some castle and meet up with others with magic to preform some spell/ceremony that requires a lot of magic. I think while there she starts to get a crush on some Irish guy with dark hair? Help!

Mary, are the sisters twins? For example, The Solstice Cup by Rachel Dunstan Muller?

This bears a vague resemblance to the early 'Young Wizard' books by Diane Duane. The older girl is called Nita, and has a younger sister called Dairine. In 'A Wizard Abroad' Nita goes to spend the summer with her aunt in Ireland, and meets a wizard called Ronan. In a later book, her Mum dies of cancer
This might be part of the Chronicles of Faerie books by O.R. Melling. Her titles include: Light Bearers Daughter: The Chronicles Of Faerie Book Three and The Book of Dreams, both of which feature a young woman protagonist who has a single father. (The other books in the series are really good, too!)
