13 Little Blue Envelopes
question
Books that one can learn from - and write essays!

Hello goodreads community!
I need some help :)
I moved from home, but I want to stay in touch with my younger sister. So I was thinking of making some monthly tasks. I imagined it like this - she gets a book, suitable for her age, that I will read before, make some questions, and she writes an essay, on Croatian, English, or German (if shes brave enough).
So she's 12 years old, lives in Croatian, understands pretty good English, German not so much (she just started learning it). I'd like some suggestions about the books, suitable for her, but also that will challenge her, and develop her thinking. She is smart for her age, likes history and reading. I wouldn't like it to be fantasy books, but can that those in mind as well.
I was also thinking of putting some riddles and clues about the next title of the book she would get.
And also would be nice to circle the year, perhaps with the same topic of the books, maybe journey through history, so please, the more ideas the better! :*
