I chose to read “Remember Me?” by Sophie Kinsella. 1. The main character is Lexi Smart, who, in the beginning, is a little quirky. She doesn’t really care what she wears, she has messed up teeth, and her hair is a mess. There are her three best friends, Deb, Fi, and Carolyn, who do everything together. There is Lexi’s boyfriend, Dave, but everyone calls him Loser Dave. They went to the bar to celebrate getting raises at their jobs, because they all work together at this place called Deller Carpets, with a boss named Simon Johnson, but Lexi was the only one who didn’t get a raise. She had a low paying job. There are more characters, but they need explanation later. The beginning of this book has Lexi, Debs, Fi and Carolyn at a bar hanging out together, and Lexi’s boyfriend, Loser Dave, stood her up. Its raining outside, so the girls are trying to get a taxi. The next day, Lexi will go to her dad’s funeral, so she needs to get home and rest. One taxi shows up, but someone else takes it. The girls have been waiting a while, so they get mad and Lexi runs down the steps she was on, and trips. She falls and hurts her head. That’s when chapter one ends. Chapter 2 starts with her waking up in a hospital bed and talking to this lady named Maureen, who is telling her that Lexi can’t remember the past three years. She thought she came to the hospital for hitting her head, but she came in for a traffic accident. Her mom shows up and tells her that her Dad’s funeral already happened, and Lexi was there, but she can’t remember. She goes to the bathroom in the hospital, and her teeth are perfectly straight. Her hair is silky and smooth. Her body is toned and her lips are full. Since she can’t remember the past three years, she doesn’t know why she looks so different. She has a Louis Vuitton bag, and she got in a car crash with her Mercedes. Three years ago, Lexi had none of these.
***SPOILERS*** Before Lexi got in her car crash, and her look changed, she was still dating Loser Dave. They were at a party together and Lexi caught Loser Dave cheating on her with this girl. The girl called Lexi “Dracula”. That made Lexi want to change her life. She got her lips done, fixed her teeth, dyed her hair, ate healthier, and found a husband named Eric. She has only beige, black, and white clothes now in her home, and they are all dresses or pantsuits. The “old Lexi” would hate these clothes. Eric came to Lexi in the hospital and took her home to this beautiful loft where they live together and go to work together at Deller Carpets. Lexi is now the boss of Deller Carpets, and she wanted to be in MAJOR control. She would be ruthless, boss people around, and always be right. She wanted to change her life for the better, but she ended up losing her best friends, Fi, Carolyn, and Debs because she was so mean to them and didn't treat them like her friends. This was all before Lexi woke up in the hospital, besides Eric coming to get her. After she wakes up and goes home with Eric, Lexi has her perfect life. Beautiful body and teeth, flawless husband, her dream job and home. But there is one problem. Lexi is cheating on Eric with his best friend, Jon. After Eric met Lexi, Eric introduced Lexi and Jon, and they fell in love. They would spend every minute together when Eric was gone, and Jon tries to remind Lexi that post-accident, but Lexi doesn’t believe him. After all, she has her dream life. After many chapters of drama between her, Eric and Jon, Lexi finally realizes that Eric only loves her for her body and beauty, so she leaves Eric and goes to be with Jon at the end of her book. 2. My experience with the book was very good. I loved this book but it’s a little hard to explain many things without giving huge pieces of information away. The author has written many other books, and I would love to read them. I picked this book out on my own, without any recommendations or suggestions, and it seems like the type of book I would read normally read. 3. The Big Idea word I chose for this book is “Change”, because there is so much that Lexi doesn’t know about her life, and she has to change so many things about her life when she meets Eric. She also has to change her living and dietary habits, for example, with Eric, they never eat bread or any other carbohydrate. Change is a huge part of this book and Lexi did very well in changing her habits for the better.
