Laura Harrison | 490 comments Artistically, Faithful Spy (John Hendrix) is beautiful and creative. Perhaps because it is a young adult title it hasn't been mentioned very much here although it qualifies for the Newbery. Or its unique styling and format could be the problem. It is part graphic novel and part traditional read. It hasn't proven a popular title in my area but it could win a Printz award.

Jennifer (waaa3) | 42 comments I loved the story of Faithful Spy but found it so hard to read- literally. Some of the print was so tiny and on similar color background. It was in my top 5 list though.

I completely agree with you. It is rough on the eyes.

Shella | 278 comments Yes- I thought the same thing- too bad- one of the best books I've seen to explain how Hitler came to power.

Jennifer (waaa3) | 42 comments I wonder if they would ever reprint? Keep the artwork and style but just adjust the print.

Sarah | 35 comments Genesis Begins Again by Alicia D Williams was excellent - it is almost YA but I would place it as upper MG fiction

Pam Page (httpwwwgoodreadscompagep) | 84 comments I just finished Genesis, Sarah and agree with you about it being an excellent book. In fact, I found it really eye-opening in many ways and it led to some great conversations with a colleague about the variances of skin color and how that impacts childrens' perceptions of themselves. Genesis is a wonderful character who represents so many girls who will be able to relate to her.

Josephine Sorrell (jothebookgirl) | 272 comments Is there a place in here where all the recommended books are listed in one place?

message 161: by Kate (new)

Kate | 227 comments Goodreads has a Mock Newbery list. It is not part of this discussion thread, but contains titles recommended by many readers:

Also, the Heavy Medal blog has a list of possible titles, along with expected publication dates:
