poot (makerner) | 20 comments Hi everyone! Thanks for the warm welcome :) I didn't expect to be added to a team, so I'm super excited to be joining you all!
I'm just about to finish this book that I have been working on and then I can hopefully find something else to contribute to the game!

Edit: I suppose I should also write an intro. I'm a college student living in San Francisco. Although I love fiction, I will give anything and everything a shot!
Edit#2: Aaaand here is my uno shelf! https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

We're so happy tou found your way over here! :)

You are able to add books you've started since feb 1st, so it doesn't need to be from the moment you were assigned :)

I love that book, it was great! The audio version was brilliant!

ETA: The spreadsheet looks good :)

I'm not sure how I felt about it. I didn't read the synopsis before starting, so it definitely ended up way different than I thought it was going to be. I absolutely loved a few chapters, but admittedly I was so confused at some parts.
I can see the audio version being very good! The whole book feels like stories someone would tell a friend :)

Thanks! I'm glad I did the spreadsheet right hehe :D

I know what you mean about it ending up different. I don't think anyone can predict all the stories she tells us ;)
She narrates the book/s herself, and does it really well, a lot of feeling so she really is telling you all her crazy stories.
Can I just say, I'm hugely impressed by her husband, ho he's managed to stay sane is kind of beyond me ;)

Yes, yes, you have guessed it already - the recommendations were not only for our pleasure but there was something more to it ;-)

Since some of you have already added a few of the recommendations to your TBR shelves, we figured that would be an ideal title for our February Mini Challenge. ;-)

All info for the mini challenge can be found HERE. Have fun!

(Co-)Captains, your spreadsheets will be updated with a new sheet for the mini challenge within the next 24 hours.

message 165: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1412 comments All right everyone, time for some planning :)

Annika | 1412 comments

This is an optional mini challenge for our UNO players.

Now that you have shared some of your favourite books with your fellow UNO players (thank you for that!), it is time to properly spread the love.

This challenge consists of two parts.

¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪ ¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪ ¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪ ¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪ ¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪

First Part

In your own team thread, you will find a post with a link to all the books recommended by the players of the other teams.

♥ As a team, you may choose up to 3 teams whose recommendations you would like to read from.
♥ As a team, you may then read 2 recommended books per team you have chosen, bringing you to a total of 6 books.
♥ For every recommended book read, your team will gain 15 points, up to a maximum of 90 points.
♥ Series substitutes are of course allowed (i.e. if book #1 in a series is recommended and you are up to book #4 of that series, you can read book #4).
♥ In case you happen to have read ALL the books that have been recommended by your chosen team(s), you may read a different book written by the same author(s).
♥ For some added fun, when you finish a recommended book, please stop by that team's thread to tell them what you thought of the book. (Even if you didn't like it - sometimes that can bring up interesting discussions.)
♥ Then report back to your own thread and post a link to your comment (they will be added to the spreadsheet by the (co-)captains). Every comment will give you an additional 5 points.

¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪ ¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪ ¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪ ¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪ ¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪

Second Part

For this part of the challenge, you will read books that can in some way be connected to the recommendations of all the teams you have not read from in the first part of the challenge.

♥ As a team, you may read up to 2 books per team.
(THIS IS JUST INFO FOR US: 22 teams, minus yourself, minus the 3 from the first part, leaves 18 teams to read from = 36 books)

♥ How does this work exactly? There are 2 ways to do this:
1. You can match the book covers to each other.
2. You can match the characters, settings, plots or any other thing you can think of.

For example: Someone on Team A has read A Man Called Ove. The cover has a man and a cat on the cover. Someone from Team B can then read a book with either of those two things on the cover (or both), like for example Storm Front, which also has a single man on the cover.
A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman Storm Front (The Dresden Files, #1) by Jim Butcher

OR, you can find a different reasoning, such as:
- reading a book based in Sweden
- reading a book with a grumpy male protagonist
- reading a book where someone discovers a new purpose in life
- reading a book with a character who has the same name as a character in A Man Called Ove

♥ The reasoning can be of your own choosing. No matter how far-fetched it might seem, we will accept it as long as the explanation is good and, most of all, plausible. (For questions whether or not the reasoning is acceptable, please check with your (Co-)Captains.)

However, there are a few exceptions to this. It is not enough to say a book "connects" due to having the same book specifications, such as:
- genre
- page numbers
- publisher
- date of publication
- Goodreads rating

♥ The edition you are reading counts. Editions other than the one you are reading will not be accepted in making your reasoning count.
♥ For every book read, your team will gain 10 points.

♥ Only books read February 14-28 will count for this mini challenge.
♥ Books started before February 14th do not count for this mini challenge.
♥ The usual book length requirement for UNO applies.
♥ Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for your UNO hands.
♥ Complete all tasks and your team gets a bonus 30 points.

♥ Captains, your spreadsheets will be updated in order for you to claim points.

♥ A countdown to the start of this mini challenge can be found HERE.

The mini challenge starts on Wednesday February 14, 2018 at 7pm AEDST (Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time). To see when this is in your time zone, use this countdown

Main cities, FYI:
Tokyo: 5pm, 14th February
London: 8am, 14th February
New York: 3am, 14th February
San Francisco: Midnight, 14th February

Now, go, increase your TBR piles and meet your next true love!

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments Fun!

There are a number of books on the Team Kuiper list that I hoped to read soon:
Etched in Bone
Gemina
The Pawn

Team Grus, Team Eris and Team Musca also have books, but all the lists look good.

If anyone sees a book she wants to read on any of those lists - or others - post ‘em, and we can get our 6 books for part one figured out, and move onto part 2.

message 168: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1412 comments I have a few books to from several teams I have lined up, I don't really have a preferance for which team we choose for each part and will go with what you guys want.

It's still blue enough to count for a coloured card :)

That's great! :)
I love it when there are a lot of options.

message 173: by Tina (new)

Tina Creek | 82 comments I’m happy the books in each group offers a lot of choices. I’m not a huge fan of historical fiction or sci-fi but in the same groups I found paranormal, romance and thrillers and some books I never thought I’d be interested in, yet I want to read them!

I think that’s my favorite part of this challenge, finding books to match the cards is forcing me to step out of my comfort reading box and explore books I normally would have looked over.

Annika | 1412 comments Tina wrote: "I’m happy the books in each group offers a lot of choices. I’m not a huge fan of historical fiction or sci-fi but in the same groups I found paranormal, romance and thrillers and some books I never..."

That's the danger with these kind of challenges. Your TBR always increases. There are just so many "new " and shiny books you find that were never on your radar.

I'm not a sci fi reader either. The only exception being the In Death series by J.D. Robb. That one is awesome, and the audiobooks even more so.

message 175: by Tina (new)

Tina Creek | 82 comments I haven’t tried audiobooks yet. Im worried I won’t pay proper attention to it. I can’t even watch a show with out playing a game on my phone. Lol but I am curious about them.

message 176: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1412 comments I worried about that too. I'm very impatient and is never still for long, so that worried me a bit. Then a friend convinced me to listen to the Dresden Files on audio and I was hooked.

Now, I'm addicted to audiobooks, and can probably go as far as to say they've saved my sanity. I listen to audiobooks all the time - when I clean, do the dishes, buy groceries, out walking and just about all the time.

message 177: by Tina (new)

Tina Creek | 82 comments I may have to do the free trail and give it a chance

message 178: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1412 comments You definitely should!

Though fair warning, if/when you listen to something hillarious in public (read in line at the grocery store) and burst out laughing - people will question your sanity ;)

message 179: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1412 comments I'm also loving the audible romance package where you are able to read as many books you are able. Definitely budget friendly and there are good books on there too.

message 180: by Tina (new)

Tina Creek | 82 comments That shouldn’t be a problem, I tend to do enough odd things as it is, for people to think I’m insane so adding one more thing won’t make much difference. Lol

message 181: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1412 comments Haha. Me too. Why be like everyone else? ;)

message 182: by Annika (last edited Feb 14, 2018 11:19PM) (new)

Annika | 1412 comments Brittany, your latest 2 book, would they work for the mini-challenge?

- Started after the countdown yesterday and can be connected to any of the recommended books (set on a ranch etc)?

message 183: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H I'm so, so sorry I have been MIA. I stopped getting updates for this thread and like a dingbat didn't just open the thread to see what was going on till now.

I'm going to go check the recommendations now and will be back soon to let you know what I can do :)

message 184: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1412 comments GR can be "mean" like that, and you are totally lost when that happens :(

message 185: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H I have three books I can work with. I'm not saying I can read all those books in the allotted time but I can try my hardest :)

Here they are...
- Cop Town by Karin Slaughter Team Betelgeuse
- Echoes in Death (In Death, #44) by J.D. Robb Team Ceres or Team Sculptor
- In the Woods (Dublin Murder Squad, #1) by Tana French Team Haumea or Team Milky Way

I'll be ready to start a new book later today. So, if someone could tell me where I should start I would appreciate it :)

message 186: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1412 comments Oo, the middle one will work as reverse too :)
I'm listening to her latest one - it's a good one!

message 187: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H I will start with the JD Robb book then :)

message 188: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1412 comments I just love Eve and her cluelessness about certain things ;)

message 189: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments I can read Alex which is on the Sculptor list too, so that is one part 1 pair.

I'm also reading Etched in Bone which is on the Kuiper and Grus lists - anyone see a book on either list you want to read in Feb?

message 190: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1412 comments It's on Musca too

I don't have anything right off the bat. But maybe someone else does?

message 191: by Teddie (last edited Feb 15, 2018 06:22AM) (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments We also need to find books for:

8 Green
8 Green
2 Blue
3 Blue

(One of these will need to be doubled, as we also have an unclaimed WILD Draw 4 to fill.)

Any takers? :)

message 192: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1412 comments I can possibly cover one of the blue cards towards the end of the month. Completely out on the green ones though. :(

message 193: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 529 comments I’ll check and let y’all know

message 194: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H I have a book that will fit the 2 Blue and I have a Green book but off the top without reading it I don't know if I can get it to fit an 8.

Should I read the 2 Blue book or give the Green one a try (and hope the is an E character) first or stick with the JD Robb book?

message 195: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1412 comments Which is the green book, maybe one of us has read it and can let yoy know?

I'm not sure if I'll be able to participate in the mini-challenge :( I'll focus on finishing the books that I've mentioned on the spreadsheet that I'll read :)

message 198: by Tina (new)

RL always comes first. But thank yoy for telling us. If you started your book/s after the countdown yesterday we can probably use it for the mini challenge. The second part of it is faily open - you just need a good imagination :)
