My local library has several of the books in the Kushiel series but they don't seem to be what I am interested in at this time.

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I am like you Darcy I have picked up that series so many times and have not finished it. Not sure I am ready to DNF it but I have to be in a certain kind of mood I think.

message 6: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4734 comments I've read Agent of Hel series, and like the ones who have read it, I enjoyed it.

I haven't tried Kushiel, just because I haven't been in the mood for that sort of series.

I think that maybe the general consensus of this group...at least so far :-)

Tina Bartz | 678 comments I just finished Poison Fruit (Agent of Hel, #3) by Jacqueline Carey . I gave it five stars. Thanks to this thread, I finally had the incentive to buy and read this book, lol.

Angie | 419 comments I just bought Dark Currents (Agent of Hel, #1) by Jacqueline Carey , which I’ve wanted to read for a while and it seemed like it was on sale at $2.99. At least I get to feel like I’m getting a deal! I’m not sure if I’ll get this read by the end of the year, let alone the end of the month, but I’m glad Jacqueline Carey was made AOM to give me a kick in the rear to buy at least one of her books!!

Sandra | 4734 comments Yay! To both of you, Tina & Angie :)

Lara | 742 comments When I read the Agent of Hel books I was sometimes distracted trying to figure out where it takes place in Michigan. I finally decided it's the town of Saugatuck. I was also surprised that she seems to have finished writing books in the series. it seemed to me that there is room for much more.

I'm guessing sales were great and the publisher didn't pick up the series for more books.

Audrea (auds1978) | 2 comments I really enjoyed the first Kushiel trilogy and was excited when I found out there was a second series a few years later. The second trilogy just wasn't as good for me. I never finished the last book in that set. I didn't even realize there was another trilogy in the world.
I thought over all the world building was really interesting and well done.
I'm going to check out the Agent of Hel series, looks interesting.

ladymurmur | 146 comments Have read all the Kushiel books multiple times over the years, and enjoyed them. The original trilogy is my favorite, though there are aspects of all that I enjoy.

Agents of Hel was perfectly lovely UF. Fun twist on familiar tropes and mythos. I'd love to read more in this world.

Read the first of the Santa Olivia books. Planning to read the second, but where some need to be in the right mood for the Kushiel series, this one is the more mood-dependent read for me. YMMV. :-)

The Sundering were very ... well ... densely Tolkein'esque. But more Silmarillion than the Hobbit. Read them after I'd finished the original Kushiel trilogy, before I knew there would be any more in that word, and really wanted to read more JC. Not likely to pick them up again. When we pare down our paper books for the move, these will not be on the keep stack.
