Roger/Bree Story Line Question

So I am an avid Outlander fan but like a few others - felt Echo was a bit weak compared to the others.
Despite that I was looking forward to MOBY. I am only about a quarter of the way through but struggling with the Roger/Bree/Buck story line. Is anyone else struggling to get over the simple fact that Roger has not (at least where I am - he just met Dougal) thought about the fact that the Gold would not even be in existance yet? Jamie hid the gold years after when Roger landed. I really just want to skip ahead...please tell me it is worth it to keep reading and becomes more believable in time.

I have questions too about the Roger/Bree story line. The author spends tons of time on seemingly unnecessary details of surgeries, but then doesn't tells us how Roger and Bree get from 1729 to 1778 or share any of that adventure with us. The Roger/Bree storyline was a large part of the first half of the novel and then it just went away. I also can't figure out why now in the 8th novel someone has gone to another timeline all together. Liked the book a lot but it was uneven
True... but... when they originally went it was to get Jem back. Now he finds himself there. And, no one could predict or control WHEN they would land back in time. You find out later why he finds himself further back than he intended. This turned out to be one of my favorites in the series. I have re-read Outlander 1 many many times, but never the others, but I will re-read this one because I just love some of the dialogue, especially from Lord John. Keep on trucking... I promise you'll love this one eventually.
The Bree Roger Buck segments were my favorite in this book. Different things resonate with different people. Just keep reading and enjoy the threads that resonate most with you.
Did I miss something in "Written in my Own Hearts Blood" or what. Bree and Roger and their two kids went back in time and "landed" about 38 years PRIOR to 1778. Then at the last page they appear to have ended up back in the same time slot as Jamie and Clair are in, in 1778.How did that happen?
I think Jem/Mandy must have the ability to "steer", and since they were with Bree/Roger that's how they all got back to the Ridge.
Roger & Buck went too far back in time BECAUSE they believe the "steering thru time" process involves concentrating on the person they are looking for. This is how Claire got back to Jamie in Voyager. Sooo when Roger and Buck go back looking for Jemmy ~ they are concentrating on "Jeremiah McKenzie" ~ Jemmy's formal name....since Jemmy never left the present ~ the "Jeremiah McKenzie" they went back in time to was Roger's father ~ Jeremiah "Jerry" McKenzie... he went back in time during WWII as a fighter pilot... this will make more sense if you read Diana's Novella "A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows" which tells you what really happened to Roger's parents that made Roger an orphan.

i devoured the book! i was wondering about Bree and Rogers story too...i flipped back, i thought i skipped a chapter or something...but it looks like the author just stopped and i'll patiently wait for the rest of the story...thanks for the adventure i love it!
I Love everything about this book, but because I am lazy csn someone please give me a brief reminder on Roger's family ie the witch Gielliss ,how Buck got to present day, how Buck was introduced originally ( I have vague memories) also the Family of Frank. Was Frank related to the really bad dude who tortured jamie? The family tree helped a lot, it is just
the story line I can't seem to remember. Thank.

I love the Buck storyline. My favorite in Moby :)
If you haven't noticed yet, Diana sometimes ends her books suddenly and with a big "moment".
I'm not confused as to how Roger and Bree ended up in Jamie and Claire's time because I fully expect that Diana will tell all about that tale in the next book :)
But even if she doesn't, it isn't hard to figure out. They needed some gems and that's about it.

The books really need to be read in sequence as there is a lot that comes up from previous events. And reading them a second time makes things a bit clearer as well
