Michelle (Spiderg1rl) (spiderg1rl) | 734 comments For me trilogies or quadrilogies are my sweet spot. Anything longer with a few exceptions seems daunting at least if most of it is out already but also too much if I have to wait 12+ years to get a resolution.

I don't mind so much if I catch it halfway through because it's not as long a delay to get to the final battle/resolution.

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments I gave up on H Potter shortly after starting book one as it was so badly written - and it was recommended to me by our children's librarian!! Delighted I never had to wade thru any more.
As others have said, it's more about the series rather than a serial, so hve always been over the moon when a new Rebus or Shardlake came out. Also have all of the Cadfaels, and Agatha Christie's. Now have to add Peter May's Lewis Trilogy, Donna Leon, Christobel Kent

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Terry Goodkind has 13 titles in the "Sword of Truth" series, all over 800 pages and I've never tired of them. I've read them all twice and some of them three times. There are many stand-alones I've not completed. So for me it all depends on the book/writing style. If it clicks and you enjoy journeying with the characters it's never going to be too long.

Must admit I enjoy the Harry Potter books.

I love the Shardlake books, hope we get another one soon. I also used to have all the Agatha Christie and Terry Pratchett Discworld books amongst others.

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments I think it only becomes a problem when the author starts to tire of their characters - and some of Donna Leon's have felt a little weary lately.

Good taste and a craving for originality? ;-)

Glad I didn't say it.

Absolutely, it would never have occurred to someone of your wit and sagacity
