It doesn't happen often, thank God. But when it does, it stings. What would be some of the reasons members do it?

Very true. I wouldn't expect you can do anything but ignore. It's disappointing but hopefully not everyone will see things in a negative light. I heard one author say, she won't rate under 4/5 stars. Anything she doesn't like she won't comment on. A good policy for at least authors to live by.
