It's a very tiny and slight true story, or rather based on tiny pieces of true stories. Dragon Teeth is based on the rivalry between real-life paleontologists Cope and Marsh. And that's sort of the where the true parts are.

Right?! I was so glad that the book/audiobook addressed this part! Otherwise I wouldn't have known it wasn't just another 'feels real' story of Crichton's.
