Hmmmmmmmmm good question. I honestly hadn't given it consideration before. I like the more openminded attitudes here (well, that depends on who you hang with because a lot of the older folk or backwoods conservatives do not count) and sheer range of individuals you can encounter, especially as you reach the cities (Portland, notably). But whether it's vets with fascinating stories, outdoor fanatics (another fav thing of mine is the scenery), contemplative artists, farmhands or loggers, hardcore environmentalists, potheads, etc. there is such a cool melting pot of people here. I love how diverse the people are, though that love isn't found in every person. I once had a customer complain about hearing 3 different langauges when she walked through the store. *shakes head* anyway. Yeah. Lots of cool peeps, though we do have some not so cool people around but that's to be expected

How accepting everyone is. How everyone is really weird and different and unique and that's okay. How there are different sexualties and genders and that's okay. How there are different cultures and various hobbies and that's okay. Everything in my town is just....okay. And there's nothing wrong with that.

I live in MN and the coolest thing about it are either all the lakes (and all the beaches) or the Mall of America. Also, we don't have a tax on clothes. And, we have Caribou Coffee which is like Starbucks but better :).

But, I think my favorite thing about it is the general atmosphere, I guess? Like, it's pretty chill and the people are nice (for the most part lol). Idk, it's hard to pick a singular favorite thing. There's just a lot of small things I like, which accumulated makes me love Minnesota.

Lynx ~ 10/1 Never Forgotten | 5901 comments Ah right, add no sales tax to mine. XD that's always a bonus

Oklahoma is honestly really beautiful. A lot of it is just empty country, but it is home to some of the oldest mountains in the country, the Arbuckles (they're short because they're old), and the third most fertile valley in the world, the Washita.
Huge lakes, half of Lake Texoma, and one of my favorite places I've ever been period, not just this state, is the Chickasaw Recreational Forest. It's big and empty and green and quiet. I know a lot of states have parks but the Chickasaw is especially dense. My favorite thing about it is the land and nature diversity, so many different plants and animals and landscapes.
I bet half of you had to remind yourselves where OK even is geographically (if you're not from/don't live here you might think of it as Upper Texas) and i admit, there's nothing super special about it. it's Flyover Nation. But i think it has a lot that makes it at least bearable to live here. The First Nations have a really big presence here and their elders are committed to keeping their spirit alive. Native American tribes from California to Texas wound up here because of Cavalry displacement, and when the state formed in 1907, tribal offices and resources when some of the first installments of the state government, because the citizens, a lot of whom were Native or half-Native, wanted the First Nations to be represented. They teach us tribal history when we're young, they hold festivals every year for everyone to learn about their cultures from food and stories and music, and we're taught from a very young age that we're not better than anyone else because of what color we are, because a lot us aren't totally one thing anyway. No matter what you hear, Oklahoma is very diverse and very staunch about beating racism out of you as a child.
I'm from Texas, and that's home, but this state has a lot of unique experiences to offer. It was a good place to grow up.

Night Owl Reader (allnightreading) There are so many book events that happen at the local bookstores, there’s also used bookstores, and I live so close to my public library, I could walk there everyday if I wanted to, there’s also cool cafés here. San Francisco is a pretty hip, fashionable place~

message 368: by Night Owl (new)

Night Owl Reader (allnightreading) There are also all gender inclusive restrooms, such a cool place. A place where anyone can be whoever they want to be, and live any way they want...as long as they don’t hurt anyone. San Fran is hella cool~

Who is your most favorite fictional character of all time, and why?

Jaxon(Jax)[They-He] | 4642 comments Rin Okamaru because, well he deals with losing a father figure and adjusts to life after finding out he's the Spawn of Satan and vows to avenge the priest who raised him, he makes a goal and sticks to it while helping others

Lynx ~ 10/1 Never Forgotten | 5901 comments Ill have to go with Keladry of Mindelan since you specified all time. While I have not read the book series she stars in in years, she was basically my role model as a pre-teen/early teen. I didn't have a lot of friends since I was homeschooled but her world was my favorite to get lost in and I always thought we would have made great friends. To me, she was a strong female defying the traditional roles of women, challenging stereotypes and sexist dialogue, and carving a path for herself and other women as she essentially went into a male-domianted field. Despite her own struggles she always looked out for others and I always valued her personality and quiet composure. I saw myself in her in many ways, though where I can be weak and slow to act, she was strong. During those years I was beaten down at church from sexist views on a woman's place (in the home, education an option but only really useful for educating your children, etc). That was not the future I saw for me yet it was the box I felt I was being shoved into, especially since they painted a job in the home as the only "righteous and fulfilling" thing a woman can do with jobs and other lifestyles deemed as ok but clearly not held in the same regard. I felt confined to their expectations and wanted to break free of it. At the time me wanting to get married was questionable, let alone having kids. I wanted to go into a male dominated field and be totally boss at it (my dream since being 8 was to be an architect). As such, a strong female character who shattered those assumptions while still maintaining positivity and compassion really meant a lot to me. I also adore Eowyn from LOTR for the same reason.

mine is definitely Nico di Angelo. a cute lil kid with stars in his eyes? me. something happens that makes him go depressed and reclusive and full of angst? meee. meets someone who helps him break back out of his shell? me. also, the gay thing is me.

Elizabeth ♛Smart Girls Love Trashy Books♛ (pinkhairedwannabe) | 16707 comments Sailor Moon from...well, Sailor Moon! At the time, I looked just like her and had an almost identical personality. She really helped me get through a very tough patch in my life and I literally wouldn't be here if it wasn't for her show. Even though I'm not like that anymore, she still holds a special place in my heart.

Is it 'SHINE'?

Jaxon(Jax)[They-He] | 4642 comments Also Sonic and Shadow. Sonic because he's actually taught me to not give up even when I feel like I can't win and Shadow cuz he doesn't let anyone change who he is as a person...er hedgehog. His best quote is "If the world chooses to be my enemy then I will fight just as I always have" :) and Sonic's quote is "Nothing starts until you take action" they're both inspiring for me

Melissa Sayers | 21 comments From Sonic the Hedgehog. My favourite character would be Manic.

message 393: by Night Owl (new)

Night Owl Reader (allnightreading) I don’t have a favorite fictional characters, I have many I like, but I don’t even know how to choose a favorite. The only person I’d called my favorite, who I love without a doubt is my best friend, Giulia. She’s a character, but she is not fictional.

The only character that comes close to mind is...Sherlock Holmes, but I’m not a fan of his drug use. Mateo from They Both Die At the End is kindhearted to the core, but I still feel like I know him well enough to call him my favorite character. A from Every Day is a pretty great fictional character too, but this entity say and thinks things that I can’t get 100% behind of. All the characters I like have flaws, and part of the reasons I like them is because they’re not perfect, they make mistakes and have flaws like everyone in real life.

I lost my train of thought, I hope I answered the question!
