The Count of Monte Cristo is a book I've been wanting to read for a long time. I thought I'd get 2018 off to a great start by challenging myself to its 1000+ pages! Although long, it is an exciting adventure story of love and revenge so hopefully will keep us hooked.

I hope that you are enjoying The Count of Monte Cristo! I am intrigued to know whether the book has differed much from your initial expectations and why?

Today I reached the 90% mark through The Count of Monte Cristo! One thing that has struck me up to this point is the number and diversity of characters. Rather than having 'main' and 'background' characters, Alexandre Dumas seems to intricately explore the lives behind almost every single name.

Who has been your favourite character so far? My vote has to go to the independent and unashamedly non-conformist Eugenie Danglars.
