I left a comment which has disappeared. I plan to borrow this book for KU when it is published, reread it and then post a review. 5 stars is probably what I will rate it. I doubt she has changed it much in editing it to publish. I enjoyed it. Darcy has to deal with being born on the wrong side of the blanket...a secret the world doesn't know about.

Finished the online version earlier today. Awesome! I think Rose just knocked that one out of the park!

Elin Eriksen (vaarin) | 545 comments I actually liked the dryad book but as English is not my native language, I probably cannot tell the difference between good and poor grammar ;)

I wondered if English was a second language for the author. But when she cannot even put a "period" at that end of a sentence, it seems to lean more towards carelessness. I am no expert but I can only think that all languages put periods at the end of a complete thought/sentence.

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1321 comments It popped up again in my mail box so I read it before realizing I had done so already. But anything by Alex is good in my book. She has a new one, The Mysteries at Pemberley that she began in January that I want to read next.

message 222: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments Just looked at it briefly and it seems like a W.I.P. on the Happy Assembly website, but I feel like I saw someplace that she's getting ready to publish that one.

message 223: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments Yep. Found it. Austen Variations is posting some teaser chapters: http://austenvariations.com/the-myste...

Only up to Chapter 1 so far. I think AHA goes a little further, though I don't think it's complete, either.

Elin Eriksen (vaarin) | 545 comments The Mysteries of Pemberley is one of the WIP's I follow. Dark and intriguing read, I am hooked ;)

message 227: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments 10 chapters so far and gosh... dark is right. I was immediately caught up... I have so many questions... who.... what happened.... why..... and OMG! I can tell Lizzy's stubborn 'no one tells me what to do' attitude is about to get her into trouble. Her trust issues are maddening. If someone tells you not to touch a hot stove... and you do... it is your fault that you got burned. However, his 'failure to inform' is also just as maddening. If he would just tell her why there was danger perhaps she would heed his warning. As it is... she doesn't know of the danger and doesn't see it because appearances doesn't coincide with what she thinks could be dangerous. The most poisonous snakes often are the most beautiful.

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1321 comments I love all her stories. Yes, this is one I am now following. and you are so right about Elizabeth and Darcy: failure to communicate and "no one tells me what to do" attitude. Fortunately we know a HEA is in store.

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1321 comments J. W. wrote: "Wow... Sheila... excellent!!!"

Elizabeth and her sisters are the products of various fathers hooking up with their alcoholic mother...men whom Elizabeth soon learns to barricade (not just lock) her and Jane's door against. Elizabeth becomes an emancipated minor, earns her GED, moves out and becomes a waitress. Always looking for a better paying job she lands a job bussing (She is too young to serve drinks.) at The Chop House, the best restaurant in town. There she learns to change her bitter and angry attitude as a friendly face earn better tips, when she becomes a waitress. Mr. Darcy, a painter, shows up weekly and is her best tipper. That all changes when Jane becomes pregnant (to Denny, a no-good slacker) with twins. But then Jane is diagnosed with an inoperative brain cancer. Elizabeth and Jane juggle schedules and even work more than one job to meet ends. When Denny walks out leaving the twins alone, Elizabeth moves in. Elizabeth, exhausted from two jobs and watching the twins, one day falls asleep with them while a Disney movie plays. When she wakes up one twin is gone and so is her respectability. The town shuns her and she loses her job as she is the prime suspect.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments Again... wow... I will have to choose the time to read this. I think my brain needs to be in a safe place in order to protect myself. I can't wait to read it. I glanced at it and was intrigued. I was already reading something else and have several lined up ahead of it. Thanks for the synopsis.

I stopped reading the book I was reading to read this and now have to pick that first one up again. It had me glued to the pages right from the beginning.

message 241: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments I could feel that draw just from my glancing at it. I will need to set aside a block of time. Wow... how do you manage to find these gems? Thanks...

message 242: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1321 comments This came to my attention when Lanie asked that it be sent to her and it was one I didn't have. So I asked Claudine if she had a link or a copy and she helped me out. Then I had to read it myself.

message 243: by Elin (new)

Elin Eriksen (vaarin) | 545 comments Probably obvious to everybody except me 🙈 but what are PIP and SV short for?

message 244: by Sheila (last edited Apr 09, 2018 01:04PM) (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1321 comments Mild SV means, I believe, mild sexual violence.

Mother's lover tries to break into girls' room. Employer puts Lizzy's pay in his pocket and demands she get it out and when she does he attempts...but is not successful...to assault her. Even Darcy propositions Elizabeth at one point.
