Finally cleared this one off my backlist as my book club chose it for the summer and I am so glad! This book lived up to the hype. I didn’t know it was set in Scotland, and it was a delight to revel in memories of Tesco Metro, picking up goods at the off-license, and pub life, not to mention experiencing that droll British wit through the voice of Eleanor herself (without her consciously trying to be funny). The book was both a laugh riot and heartbreaking at different times. Loved loved loved the author’s command of vocabulary and cultural references. One of my top reads in 2021.

A single loner with tragic, heartbreaking history. Her life changes when a real friend come into her life and ultimately help her to find way to repair her life.
