Many of the group total errors happen between pages. For this challenge clicking on "newest" and posting at the bottom of the page may not work. It takes you to the last post you read not the last comment posted and you may end up posting on the wrong page and throwing off the count. Refreshing the page won't solve that problem if it keeps you on the same page.
Not sure if there's a quick fix other than being aware that you may not actually be on the most recent page and clicking on the next button. It helps to know that there are 50 posts per page.
Mistakes will happen -- we're more into reading than math! ;-D We're doing a good job catching the mistakes and 'recalculating'. And the page total is impressive. Yea team!!
