I'm gallivanting all over the place with Ava Lee in The Water Rat of Wanchai. We're just about to arrive in Guyana, which is where I've pencilled this one in on my list.

Love the series! Ava Lee brings a whole new definition to what it means to be a "forensic accountant." Hope you're enjoying the action-packed story. If anything the series helps one travel rapidly around the world - she is definitely a world traveler. I love her packing style too.

Me too! It's little details like those that make her so engaging, I think; what's she's packed, and how she uses her minimalist wardrobe throughout the trip. Sometimes I forget it was written by a man. But then, when she puts on a fresh outfit, I find myself wondering when she had time to have those clothes laundered. I mean - we know she only has 2 sets of underwear plus a sports bra...LOL

Leslie | 82 comments Last night I found a book of Old Fashioned Tales and read The Race for the Silver Skates by Mary Mapes Dodge. This was such a sweet surprise for me. I didn't realize this was the author of Hans Christian Anderson. It was a delightful read. Setting for this tale was Holland. Amazon currently has this for free The Junior Classics Old-Fashioned Tales; Volume 6. Mine is Vol. 6.

Nice - it is a vibrant city steeped in history with its famous white tower. Also check out the Halkidiki peninsula close by - breathtaking villages and scenery. Was there a loog time ago but I bet it's still lovely.

I think so -- friends had a car, that's how we got there, but I'm guessing there must be - it's a popular destination.

Val Stephanie wrote: "Lilisa wrote: easy to get to by bus? "
It is easy enough to get there by bus and there are several options, biggest: https://www.greeka.com/greece-travel/..., but it is best to get away from the airport first (expensive if you get a taxi straight from the airport and it brands you as a naive tourist to be fleeced). Check some traveller forums for up to date information, as none of mine will be.

So, basically, the same as Americans do!

I wonder if this is a globally-shared phenomena or perhaps only applicable to former English colonies?

But then one wouldn't be drinking the right wine! Seriously, one must have some standards.

What's that quote! "The first duty of wine is to be red. Don't speak to me of your white wines." Murger, I think.

I am in Cairo with The Last Watchman of Old Cairo by Michael David Lukas. There are twin story lines - one that takes place in 1897, and another that takes place largely in tenth century AD but partly in contemporary times.
