okay, so I know this isn't much to go on but I read this book a while back and loved it. basically a mother returns to the small beach town she grew up in because she wants to show her teenage daughter and younger son where she grew up. it's implied the boy has some sort of developmental issue. pretty early on he gets seperated from his mother, the story is first person from the mother's POV. the rest of the book is the mother and daughter looking for the son but everywhere they go the mother is reminded of a childhood memory and we get big chunks of childhood stories as if she is a child telling and living these memories in present time. the author is a woman i'm pretty sure of that. probably written in the last decade as well, for sure 21st century.
