Elizabeth Arnold (ebetharama) | 1 comments A while back the fug girls posted a book and TV series (in the UK) about a young socialite in '20s England. . .said if you liked Downton you'd like it. I'd like to read the books, and can't remember the name, or find the post on GFY. . .any help?

Alicia | 347 comments Are you sure it was in the UK and not Miss Fisher? Cocaine Blues (Phryne Fisher, #1) by Kerry Greenwood

Susan I agree with Alicia. I think it is probably Miss Fisher. And they take place in Australia and aired on the ABC--Australian Broadcasting System. In fact, they are still on. Season 3 to start soon. They are very fun, and so are the books.

Meg | 9 comments Try the Her Royal Spyness mysteries by Rhys Bowen. Set in the 1920s, the protagonist Georgie (last name can't remember, something royal) is 34th in line for the throne. She's totally broke and the books are kind of delightful. There's also the Daisy Dalrymple series by Carola Dunn. Also set in UK in the 20s.

Jessica Morgan | 4 comments Hi! I think that was me (um, obviously) and if it wasn't Miss Fisher (which it probably was, although I don't think I would have compared it to Downton), you might be thinking of the Montmaray books, by Michelle Cooper, although they're not a TV series and they're later than the 20s. I know I've rec'ed them before. Do you remember when I mentioned them?

OH! I know what I bet you it was, although it's also not a TV series: the No Angel trilogy by Penny Vincenzi. THAT is my "if you like Downton, you'll like..." recommendation. I LOVE those books. They are fat and juicy and of course someone eventually falls in love with a Nazi.

Susan The Miss Fisher books were definitely mentioned once. I think it might have been in a Friday wrap up.
