Tera my name is Tera and Im a gardenholic.
I need help!
Let me explain in the backyard this year we made a raised bed garden for veggies. (dirt in texas sucks so we went raised bed)
its 4x24 and its full of veggie seeds.
In the front yard is a 4x10 plot under my window. In that I have 4 dwarf holly bushes 3 rose bushes lavendar rosemary basil verbena and some grass looking stuff. But I want to create a rose garden and im not sure where to put it. The house faces south so that is the best sun for me we have a 6ft privacy fence around the backyard.
I really dont know what to do I feel like the herbs in the front arent goign to have enough room and Id like to ideal make it all roses but the dwarf holly bushes are so cute and great for the winter so I dont want to lose those either.
I feel like the dog who wouldnt let go of his bone but wanted another one too.
Anyone have a rose garden or total herb garden and suggestions?

Cyd | 21 comments I have to rant about grape hyacinth. I can't decide if this was the best investment in a little baggie of bulbs or a pest. Don't get me wrong, they are cute, make a pretty bouquet in a small vase, and they have a delightful scent. I have these little guys coming out my ears and so do my friends, my neighbors and innocents who come to my annual garage sale. Okay, thank you for listening. I feel much better.

Cheryl S. | 3501 comments Today is one of those days we silly Minnesotans treasure. It's almost 40 degrees and there isn't a cloud in the sky. For Mar 3, this is a big deal. I opened my patio door on the south side of the house and one of the bedroom windows on the north to get a little fresh air in the house and it smelled so good. I could hear birds singing somewhere in the distance and the eaves were dripping like crazy. My two cats went into a frenzy and raced from one end of the house to the other, chased each other and then rolled around on the floor in mock battle. Seems fresh air is more heady than catnip. I must admit I felt like doing a couple of dance steps myself. Of course it won't last, sleet and snow are perdicted for this week-end but it sure does lift the spirits to have a few hours to recharge the batteries.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) I agree Cheryl! It sure does lift our spirits and recharges us when we're able to open the windows or leave the house without being in full Arctic gear, lol! So glad it was a nice day for you! Very dreary here. What started as snow that didn't stick turned to rain and it's been raw since late yesterday afternoon.

Cheryl S. | 3501 comments Probably due to my advancing age I had a surprise in the mail today. I had forgotten last fall I had turned in a claim to Spring Hill regarding some damaged plants I received last year. The replacements arrived today and it took me a few minutes to remember how I came to be receiving them. LOL! Since it's too early to set them out I will have to pot them for a few weeks, but I really don't mind. Having that first new thing to plant for the season is always exciting. (Belladonna delphiniums and white Alaska daisies)

Also I learned today my favorite greenhouse is opening three weeks early---this coming Sat.!! Can't wait to get my hands on some pansies and see what else is new. This greenhouse also has great deals on bare root stock and I'm anxious to see what they have available this year.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Now that's a happy day Cheryl! Sounds like pretty selections! (I had the same thing happen the 1st year I ordered from Spring Hill in '06!) Exciting that the greenhouse is opening early! Happy dance!

Cheryl S. | 3501 comments LOL, Jo. I potted up my new arrivals late yesterday afternoon, but had to wear a jacket with a hood and gloves to do it due to icy northwest winds. Another warming trend perdicted for the next few days should make the next gardening projects a little more pleasant. I plan to plant sweetpeas, greens, radishes and kholrabis later on today.

MadgeUK Great Spring gardening weather here - have just spent a happy afternoon pruning and tidying. I also pushed some nasturtiums seeds into pots here and there - good show and good to eat! Have yet to decide what bedding plants to spend my birthday garden vouchers (£100!) on - I've been using begonia semperflorens a lot because they are good in dry weather but given that we have had a couple of wet summers, I may revert to the more glamourous petunias, striped and plain!:) Priscilla (mauve) and Fanfare yellow might make a brave show!

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Sounds great Cheryl & Madge! Very nice selections you've got there.

We've leveled out here at the shore temp wise and had frost warnings last night at our weekend home in the mountains! Gardening in two different Zones is proving to be interesting!
