Kvothe and Superman (from original movie....i think)

So here is my theory after reading book #2....

Kvothe has chosen to change his (true) name and forsake all of his power in order to be with Denna. Fela's statement about how women can see that he will leave them for better things, adventure (don't have actual quote), etc seems to strike a nerve with Kvothe and I believe he will promise her a normal life if she marries him. This is similar to when Superman forsakes all of his powers in order to be with Lois Lane and I believe Kvothe will do the same for Denna. This decision will lead to tragic consequences and IMO the death of Denna while a helpless Kote watches (again similar to Superman's story).

Keeping with the Superman theory/theme, this would explain why Kote still acts or behaves like Kvothe with little to no success (Superman does the same thing and gets beat up after giving up his power). In order to regain his abilities he, or Bast (his Son!) has retained the world's best namer so that Kote can remember and return to his true self.

Any thoughts? Am I totally off bc of known facts?

Also, pretty obvious that the man waiting to die at the end of each book is Kote so that Kvothe can be reborn right?

I've wondered if, in the process of raining down vengeance on the Chandrian, Denna is killed, or somehow irrevocably lost, and that's the pivotal personal disaster that causes him to forsake his own identity once and for all.

So, you're pretty much saying that Kovthe's story will be enhanced by a woman in a refrigerator.

That's a very old idea and something Marvel pulls off constantly.

Anyway, everyone interprets so much into book 2 that it makes me go '???' all the time.
I think it's probably that Kvothe simply moved on and buried his old life, which is why he took abuse from the soldiers in book 2. When he said 'I almost forgot who I am' he hints that he had to remind himself of the life he now has, instead of the one he once had.
Everyone here is so bent on Kvothe mysteriously losing his old self, or his name, or whatever when he's actually from a family of people where playing a role was something they did on regular basis. So, I'm pretty sure Kovthe is simply a very good actor.

Also, why should Denna marry Kvothe? He's scared of losing her if he confesses that he has feelings for her although it's quite obvious. She treats him like a good friend and that's that. He doesn't automatically 'deserve' to be together with her, simply because he's friendly. That's not how relationships work.

Oh, and Kvothe not being able to unlock his mysterious chest? If you don't use your skills they go dull. Living a life as a simple owner of an inn without practicing magic or whatever might've dulled his skills. Or he got hurt badly in the past. Not everything is automatically myyysteeerious.

Writing on a phone so this will be jumbled..

we are reading a fantasy book with TONS of mystery and Bast, Chronicler and the reader are constantly asking "why can't Kvothe do Magic?" so thinking that there will be a better answer than you gave is likely. Authors also are known to use their favorite childhood stories as inspiration for books they write. I believe a character even mentions the fact that many stories are retold and changed to fit the setting...(could be wrong about that).

Also I think people will be very surprised with how young Kote is and how little time has passed between him losing/changing his name and ending up as an innkeeper so dulling of skills seems very unlikely.

Finally, if you haven't figured out that this is a love story then you are reading a different book than I am. The fae tree who Bast basically said brings upon the utter destruction of the world mentioned Denna several times. She is central to Kvothe's character and their relationship will be key in determining why he has given everything up. Marriage might be a stretch so it might be simpler than that with the same result that Kvothe changes his name for her.

damn, i entered this thread hoping someone would be comparing Kvothe to superman's "if there's something i'm having trouble with i'll attain a power that counters it perfectly because i don't need to grow as a character" powers.

would have been a fun read, oh well

As far I as I know Supermans powers never change. It's Batman who magically has everything he needs in a belt around his waist.
