Lana Dickerson | 6 comments A young boy and his family appear to live in a underground terrain. His father goes on a expedition
and never returns. The boy sneaks off in a space ship to find his father. He finds his father whose hair has turned white and is a longer, and he is not his usual self. The boy notices the plants seem to be very
living plants, because when a plant leaves brushes against his face it actually feels very alive like it's really touching him.The boy follows his father one evening, and he sees how his father is drawn to a female plant creature and is obsessed with it. When the plants are not in photosynthesis mode, he is able to take the father back with him into the space ship. The plant prevents this by bursting through the rocks and takes the father back. The boy is unable to bring his father back home. I read this book back in the 1980's. I hope someone else is familiar with this story and remember the author/title of book. Thank you

Anything about the cover?
Was it part of a series?

The book was located in the young adult science fiction section. But it also
May be considered fantasy. I remember the back cover of the book gave
A little synopsis, and that is what moved me to read it. It was not a part of
A series.

Serena | 106 comments Strange Relations (omnibus w/Strange Relations, Flesh, The Lovers) by Philip José Farmer by Philip José Farmer, I've not read this author but plant women and human man on cover recalled it to mind from your description.

Lana Dickerson | 6 comments Serena the father was obsessed with the plant creature
like in a worshipful way. The plant remained in total plant form. But by the description from the young boy he felt the plant was a female. Thank you for your help.

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Lana, did the story take place on Earth? Was there any space travel? Remember anything else about the setting?

Lana Dickerson | 6 comments I think it did or it may have been another planet. The
family lived in a underground terrain. Because the
spaceship moved underground. When he located his
father he was no longer underground.
