I loved the part from St. Augustine: "what we call three tenses are really just shades of one: our present experience of the past (otherwise known as memory); our present experience of the future (anticipation), and our present experience of the present (attention)"
The author could have added Einstein's Dreams to the list too. It was a fascinating little book. Anyone else read it?

Oh, thanks for this. I'm a big fan Mallory Ortberg and hadn't heard about her Merry Spinster.

Any we should add to this, Lesley?
I've only read Picnic at Hanging Rock and Gould’s Book of Fish (and the first 3 chapters of The Slap) but thought Murray Bail's Eucalyptus and Kneale's English Passengers should have been on the list.

How was Gould's Book of Fish? I bought it years ago but have never made time for it.

Cool. I've spent so much time with bird ID books but yet have given no thought to fish books.

I LOVED Murray Bail Eucalyptus, and only liked some of the others. Peter Carey I loved his books, but hated the endings. However , the last few have been superb to the end. Looking forward to his new one.

I was happy to see Perdido Street Station as I loved the Mieville books I've read previously and this one is next up in my queue. Mieville is a master of world building.

Interesting. I haven't read any of them, but Dracula.

If you wanted to give Mieville a spin Bnb, The City & the City is a mystery and really quite fun.

Good to see one of my faves on there : Michelle De Kretser

The only other one that appeals to me is " The Fish Girl".

Some interesting possibilities here. I've read the Jessie Greengrass short stories An Account of the Decline of the Great Auk, According to One Who Saw It and think she'll develop into an interesting writer but perhaps isn't quite there yet. Has anyone tried Fever Dream? I've heard good things about it.

I read Melmoth a few months ago and loved it and am going with a friend to see Kate Atkinson just a few days after Transcription comes out.
Very much looking forward to Washington Black and The Mermaid and Mrs. Hancock too.
Love fall reading! What are you getting excited about?

I have read so many of her books. Had such a great time at our Cairns Tropical Writers Festival, wish I was able to see MORE of my favourite authors. Enjoy.

Those of you who are also friends with me on FB, already know how much I love this book. I must look for more books from

1. The Lost Man by Jane Harper
Another stunning rural crime thriller from Jane Harper. Set against the searing backdrop of outback Queensland, this is the story of two men struggling to come to terms with the mysterious death of their brother.
LOVED THIS
23. Redemption Point by Candice Fox
After being falsely accused of kidnap, former cop Ted Conkaffey is trying to disappear. But the father of Ted’s alleged victim has a plan for revenge, and he’s determined to succeed.
LIKED THIS
53. Into the Night by Sarah Bailey
A gritty and enjoyable metropolitan police procedural with a memorable cast of characters.
LIKED THIS
This list doesn't appeal to me at all. I only read the 'police procedurals' when I can't find anything really special on my EBOOK platforms. Have even had to started buying kindle's, as I weary of the 'write by numbers' of these others.
My favourite OZ woman writers are : Michelle de Kretser, Charlotte Wood, Fiona McGregor, Inga Simpson, Myfanwy Jones...
