ally Yes.

Ruby Yes, I think you're absolutely correct.

Perhaps there are teenagers like Hazel out there; I think there probably are and that they think deep thoughts like she does and have a cynical/wise view of like as she does. However, for me, Augustus didn't seem like a real person.

I doubted the existence of this type of person who takes like an old soul, makes metaphors out of things in real life, and talks like he is a philosopher stuck in a teenager's body.

Of course, he wasn't exactly as he seemed; this made me feel a little better about his pretentiousness. I think thought himself morally sophisticated to a point of... emotional immortality? It annoyed me (his character). Not because I disliked how he acted as a person, but because I knew that people like this just do not appear all the time in real life. It made the story seem really fictional, and it wasn't supposed to be.

He had one flaw (the invincibility thing). I wanted to see more of him as a person: not just Augustus-who-acts-out-morals or Augustus-who-speaks-in-SAT-words- I wanted to see the parts of his characters that made him human. And I didn't get to, because he WAS a little too smart and a little too pretentious.

ally I agree completely! The story, the way I read it, was a published fanfiction; and I just hate their holier-than-thou attitude so much. At least Draco Malfoy (sort-of) grew out of it... There is no character development whatsoever throughout out the book.

Thank god there's no sequel. *shudders*

hannah renee. The characters are downright flat. Flat, flat, flat. FLAAATTT. And yes, I think they are pretentious. No teenager legitly talks like that all the time. Even me, who talks maybe a bit more poetically and with bigger words at times. But there is NO WAY I talk like them.

OH MY GOODNESS! That thing about saying how she felt but not SHOWING us. So good!

The whole comment in general is just pure gold!

ally If the intelligence

Intelligence?! More like holier-than-thou and abuses metaphors!

of these characters threatens you,

If I ever met Hazel Lannister the emotionless Bella Swan stand in, I would bitchslap her to no end

then maybe you should step back and take an look at yourself....

*sputters* ARE YOU EFFING ME?! I AM FINE. I AM FUCKING FINE. TAKE A LOOK AT YOURSELF.

The thought of this never even crossed my mind...

Well, you're probably a teenager.

I loved this book...

I hated it.

and never felt sorry for these characters...these 2 young people lived more life

Like egging a vintage car and kissing in the ANNE FRANK house. Not to mention drinking shit that would mess with their cancer meds. =.=

in the short time they had then most...

Hazel is a psychopath. Gus-Gus is a douche.

and there is nothing wrong with being well educated...

No, there isn't, but if it's IN YOUR FACE I'M BETTER THAN YOU, yes.

its refreshing....

*headdesk* [Because this is too stupid for a facepalm]

why should an author dumb his characters down to please anyone?

*sputters* EXCUSE ME?! I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH SMART PEOPLE. I DO HAVE A PROBLEM IF THEY'RE IN YOUR FACE.

and Pretentious?

Hell yes, they are. Reality check. Analyse this book. Do a chapter by chapter commentary. Research what is mentioned. Basically, do what the Whittler did. Then tell me you believe this POS opinion.

Please...there is nothing pretentious

My ass. My fudging ass.

about this book...Its a good story

In the universe HP is hated like Twilight/50SOG and Twilight/50SOG is praised like HP.

and I would not want to see these characters any other way.

Then, we part paths here. BYE.

ally Annie: I understand that you mean well, but I can't find myself to even somewhat see your viewpoint, if I'm being honest. So, sorry.

Lucky thing Hazel Lannister isn't in TFIOS then. Maybe she'll appear in Game of Thrones ;)

ally xD Thank you! @Brooke @Emma

*bows* That was fun. Since I'm in the target age group... *grimaces* Yeah. This released a lot of pent up rage. :)

The whittler does a chapter by chapter analysis of the book on das sporking, which is where I got some of it. I recc it to anyone who cannot stand the book (which is no one I know. =.=)

Oh, and Lannister seemed to fit. I saw it somewhere, no idea, but from since then, she is now Hazel Lannister to me. Oh well, maybe she'd be the first kill of Joffrey or something. Or one of the starks... Eh. Just one of the characters, any of them.

I've read the analysis. It's fabulous.

message 113: by ally (new)

ally xD It is. :) Everyone on das sporking is fabulous, really. They don't deserve enough credit as it is.

message 114: by Storm (new) - rated it 1 star

Storm Arashi I'm gonna get this out of my system and then getting out of dodge.

Edward Cullen and Bella Swan are better characters!

message 115: by ally (new)

ally Um... *looks around*

*whispers* You aren't supposed to say that.

xD I actually think they're better, in all aspects.

*whispers* I don't even like the main Twilight couple... I don't even like Twilight. I can tolerate it and it was more tolerable then Hazel and Gus. >w>

Ruby Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

However, the fact that someone has a problem or a disability (or in her case cancer) has absolutely no influence on the accuracy of their judgements.

If I'm going through a divorce, say, we can say that I've been through a lot of marital strife. But if I was to advise my friend about the nature of life, what would that have to do with it? Just because Hazel has cancer/looks at life a different way doesn't actually make her analyzations of what life means and who matters and who doesn't any more correct than the rest of us. The cancer may be terminal, but does that mean that that gives Hazel some deep understanding of the universe? She's a teenager! She still is developing her view of the world.

Thus, I dislike Hazel because of the snobbish way she makes sometimes spiteful judgements based on the flawed reasoning that she is somehow deeper than other people.

I think a big thing of this is that there was a lot of: "Lol I have cancer so I can get away with whatever I want." hidden there.

message 119: by ally (new)

ally It was actually. Plus, the Anne Frank house kill....

Excuse me while I attempt to calm down.
